Retrieval Run

By Nazull, in Android: Netrunner Rules Questions

On Retrieval Run do you ignore the memory cost of the program that u install from RR.

Maek a run on Archives. If successful,

instead of accesing cards you may intalls

a program from your heap, ignoring all costs.

on the FAQ when talking about the Dinosaurus it refurs to Memory limit as part of the cost.

I hope i have got this right :)

FAQ copy

If the Runner has no free MU but a Dinosaurus that is not currently hosting an icebreaker, he can install an icebreaker on Dinosaurus without trashing a program. Declaring where a program is hosted is part of the install action, and so the memory cost of the program does not need to be taken into account.

The reason that ruling works is because it specifies that the program was installed on Dino. People where wondering if you could actually do that or if you had to install to the rig first (and therefore be forced to trash a program first).

I.E. No you can't ignore the memory requirement. If you don't have the memory, you must trash it (though you could instal it hosted on something like Dino, Djinn, or Omni-Drive to potentially avoid having to trash anything if your rig is full.

thanks :)

I was thinking it might by that way but hoping it was not :(

Bear in mind that MU is not a 'cost'. It's a limit on the amount of programs you can have installed. You don't pay MU, you fill it up with things.

The FAQ also has a section (under clarifications) on memory which states it isn't considered an additional cost.

Compliance with the memory limit is an ongoing condition. As soon as the limit is in breech, perhaps when MU hardware is destroyed, the Runner has to start trashing programs until they are within their allocation.
