dutch

Is Dutch worth using without a turret? I want him for his ability, but unsure to run him for 23 points, i normally chuck a ion turret on him, but i wanted to save the points lol

He's significantly better with a turret, but still worth running without one.

I think you'll find that most people will say no, it's not worth it, but it's possible, it just depends on how vital his ability is to your build. Give it a try and see how it works :)

I ran him w/o a turret in my first tourney last year. I was still rather fresh to the game, and while I did okay, I was disappointed in what I played by the end of the day, there were too many glaring short comings of the list, including the turretless dutch.

If you consider that Dutch w/o a turret is the same points as a Red, then lets look at having the two of them. Let's also say he's handing his TL off to a 3 attack ship.

That extra TL will take the friendly from 2.25 hits to 2.81 hits. Dutch himself will roll 1.5. So Dutch's contribution is 2.06 hits per turn. If he is action denied, he will only be rolling 1.0 damage, and not adding anything to the other guy.

Meanwhile, a red would be rolling 2.25 damage if he got an action, or 1.5 if he didn't. In both cases, he does more overall damage than Dutch w/o a turret does. Given, a red is slightly more fragile. And while we could compare to a blue, the PS2 to PS6 is worth quite a bit more than the ps4 to ps6 comparison of red -> dutch. Not included in the math is the fact that the X wing has a better dial, which doesn't mean too much in dog fighting (since the Y does have white 2 speed maneuvers, and 1 speed forward/bank... and the same greens) it does in closing the game, when the X can do the 3 turn and the 4 straight with ease.

So, unless you have a need for that PS6 TL (read, ordnance) and either already have Tycho/Luke/Ibby/Kyle/Jan w/ SL, there really isn't any reason to take Dutch without a turret.

Depends on the list. Dutch's value may be higher in combination with turreted ships like the Falcon, as the falcon can almost always get a shot whereas any other ship may not even have a shot. Given that, anything that boosts the falcon's attack can work well.

Dutch, in combination with Lando and Garven can be a great synergy set up with or without a turret. In that set up, I like to use the Blaster Turret as I can get Dutch TL'd with double focus Garven TL'd and focused every turn and with PtL on Lando, I can PtL and focus him every turn as well.

The build still works sans Turret for a Torp on Dutch instead. Or if you run Dutch without a Turret, he can have an R5 or R2 as can Garven and Lando can have Nien and the Falcon name card.

Also, the synergies adapt after you lose 1 ship so you are still getting value.
