Soul Calibur III and IV characters

By Viewtiful_Joe, in UFS Rules Q & A

Lets say I'm playing Siegfried. from the SCIV set. Because the dot system has started over again, does this mean that this Siegfried is counted as a totally different character from say Siegfried:: from Flash Of The Blades and therefore cannot be stacked on top of one another.

Also, if this is the case, am I able to play Glam with Siegfried. or, conversly, Soul Calibur* with Siegfried::

Apologies if the question sounds confusing, but it does make sense, or at least it does in my head :P

The dot system has reset due to the fact that soul calibur 4 is a new license. Other than that, all the characters are still identical, and so i see no reason why you cannot stack them, nor use character only cards. It says Siegfried only on Glam, therefore only Siegfried can use it, as long as that character is Siegfried, which the SCIV character is.

You say that, but when Hanzo carried over to a different licence, he was given 3 dots rather than 1, and you're right, Soul Calibur III and IV are different licenses, that is why I asked the question :P

Yeah but Hanzo is more of a special case, as they were always licensed as SNK, which including both Kof and SS, though i see your point. Perhaps they just decided characters would look stupid with about 10 dots on them. It is universal fighting system though, so it makes sense.

It makes a bigger difference in Legacy. It was once ruled that if you are attempting to discard a card from your opponents hand, and it says you must name the card if you attempt to name a character you must specify which character it is by dots. So now there are multiple 1 dot Nightmares, Siegfireds etc. now. What will the ruling be changed to now?

They might be considered the "same card" but with varying text.

As in you can only run a total of 4 Siegfried*'s in your deck, wether its 3 new ones and 1 old one, 2 and 2, or whatever combination you like.

Much like that foundation where some are printed Unique and some are not, and they are ran "as printed"

More likely you would be able to say 1 dot soul calibur 4 Seigfried. They also have different set designations too people, so you can specify by that, which if I remember corectly was another way to specify characters. This is no where near as complicated game breaking or as much of a issue as you guys are making it out to be.

I'm not saying it's gonna break the game. I just wanted to bring that point simply because it warranted being mentioned in this discussion. It is just as simple as the licenses being seperated by name, it's a quick ruling away from fixed.

the only time i see it mattering if characters from different sets are the same ( i mean from SC and SC4 as opposed to two seperate incarnations of say Blanka under the SF license) is in diversity.

You'd have thought they'd have learned their lesson w/ Dark Hado.

This is just plain annoying, inconvient, and unneeded.

It is not game breaking or bad rules, rather bad naming.
