Biggs and ORS, Help???

By Jisforjets, in X-Wing

I have played 25~ games, two tournaments, and a league. I feel good about my distances and judgment calls. I am no pro or game savant, but I am ready to step my squads up beyond the stats. I really like Biggs, shocker!! I am a huge fan of ion weapons. I have not got a chance to play test this squad. Tournament Sunday I hope to bring some version of this...

Biggs

ORS

Blue B ion cannon

Goldie Y ion turret

Am I falling into a trap by taking two ions in this build?

Well my first thought is your lack green dice and tbh a lack of red too. Putting an ion on the B-wing is a wast of a B-wing, you really want it killing not ionizing. If you really want that second ion then put the turret on Ors.

Also the B will want to use that sensor slot, advanced is great as your B will most likely be stressed most of the game.

Having the two Ions would be great against a falcon but if you come up against a swarm your current list won't last to long.

Biggs is kind of a wast here too as he is lacking any high value target to protect.

Perhaps look at two blue B's with and HLC each with Biggs to protect them and go from there.

Having Ors in there handing out that extra red means you could be putting out some serious hurt

You could try this :

Biggs 25

Ors 25

Blue with HLC 29

Rookie 21

Ors 25

ORS is 27 points so this squad is 102 points.

I would keep the squad like you had it with the Y-wing and B-wing having ion ability. You don't have to use the B to ion, but once you get one, you can move into range 1 and do some real damage with that B-wing.

I'm a big fan of Jan and Biggs! I have found four is not better than three if the 4th is just an added ship for a 4th's sake. Here is my 3 ship fleet that has yet to loose in both casual and organized play.

Biggs+R2D2+Shield Upgrade

Jan+Ion Turret

Ten+Adv. Sensor+Marksmanship

Keep Biggs at 2-3 range to draw fire away from Jan and Ten. Jan will set up easy shots and provide re-rolls while Biggs and Ten should be killing something almost every round.

I do have a 4 ship version of this though:
Biggs+R2D2

Roark+Ion Turret

Blue Sqd+Adv. Sensors

Blue Sqd

Really neat suggestions there. I meant outer rim smuggler. Sorry really should have spelled it out at some point.

I have had some luck setting up asteroids in a spot with 1 range between them and flew Biggs back and forth behind them.

Don't forget that for Biggs to be the target instead of your other ships, your other ships must be at range 1 of Biggs and Biggs must be a valid target of the enemy attack, otherwise they can be targeted as normal.

Here's an option for you, that keeps things close to where you have them.

Biggs

x2 Blue Squadron

ORS + Engine.

Fly them together then at first then rush the ORS into the enemy formations to limit there actions. If you want to fly them together the whole time then you could try this instead.

Biggs

x2 Blue Squadron + FCS

ORS

I like the first list better as the ORS can sometimes get in the way of your own ships Boost can really make that ship fast and hard to get an angle on.

That boost could be really nice. So much jam control.

Rather than an Engine Upgrade, may I suggest a Navigator and Intelligence Agent. That way, you can look at a dial from the other side and if needs be, change the move your ship will make somewhat. These two will get more use than the Engine Upgrade I think and will give a better tactical edge.

Will B wings end up a better value in the Biggs and smuggler build than X wings? Same fire power of course, but the Xs give me those points for upgrades.

Biggs

Smuggler APL

2 rookies

96

At that point there is a lot of wiggle in the build. Obviously the strategy revolves around biggs controlling target priority and action denial, how best to outfit the squad for that purpose?

B wings are tanks and less needy than X-wings. They can also barrel roll. With Biggs forcing the action, B-wings can be deadly! If my choice is a naked B-wing or a rookie X-wing with an upgrade, I'll take the B-wing every day and twice on Sunday!

Nope. Jan Ors is 25 points not 27

I don't think we are talking about Jan (last name Ors), but about Outer Rim Smuggler (abbreviated ORS). There's where a bit of the confusion is coming from.

Yeah, I just realized that. Hahaha oops I posted before reading the other comments :-P
