My Little Spaceship: Combat is Magic

By Darth Furor, in X-Wing

It's strange indeed. I had a lot of trouble believing it myself. But when I gave the show a chance, I found a delightful little program that not only taught good morals, but was genuinely entertaining.

I mean, you have to at least chuckle at this:

That's one of two clips that convinced me this series is worth checking out.

So THAT'S why Vader spends so much time in his "isolation chamber..."

The real secret is, Palpatine was caught watching MLP by the Jedi.

That's the real reason for order 66.

You don't know terror (and maximum awkwardness) until you're at Gencon, and a balding man in his 40s is coming towards you in a bright blue spandex outfix with a rainbow mane, plush little horse doll clutched under his arm, to disrupt your game of Star Trek: Star Fleet Battles, to let you know about his fanfic where the star trek universe discovers planet pony....and won't go away (even after being told "we don't care"). He literally stood there for 10 minutes staring at us before getting the hint.

I'm sorry it's just such a huge pet peeve of mine seeing this sub-culture fetish obesssion being slammed into places it was never intended, and should never be intended to be. It's like watching a child trying to shove a square block into the round hold.

And that's my rant for the day.

I knew terror when someone with less than 10 posts and no avatar on, was on a forum for Xwing disrupted a conversation about Xwing by talking about some fanfic minis game based on our beloved Xwing system using STAR TREK of all things! It's such a pet peeve of mine...(insert humor here).

Plenty of people have pointed out how you've been rude/offensive/close minded/etc... we don't like that much around here and would appreciate it if you'd keep it out of these forums.

My biggest problem with taking any children's cartoon / character and embedding it into an more mature setting is that children then get attracted to that setting thinking its based on the cartoon / character.

Now this is not really a problem with star wars per say, as it is very kid friendly, but becomes a big problem when such things get associated with horror, violence, or more sexual themes that are not kid appropriate.

Number of posts and an avatar are not a good indication of someones merit ... why bother mentioning it? Especially since you talk about the forum not being close minded in the next few sentences. I do, however, in general agree with your point.

Only used those to put a descriptor in as the parallel to spandex and a rainbow mane as humor and not to put him down.

Ah that went right over my head! Sorry about the chastisement, it stemmed from a prevailing sentiment I have observed that a lack of avatar somehow makes less of member (I never use avatars, just my own preference in how I use forums).

I guess it's okay though if you can google stuff about star wars and find Ahsoka in questionable things though right?

Or google Sonic get the same thing.

TMNT.

Transformers.

This kind of stuff happens and people shouldn't pretend it's specific to any fandom.

if you read my post you will notice I said ANY character or cartoon targeted at children, which would include all of your examples.

The difference is what AGE group is targeted, there is more danger with charters and cartoons targeted at younger audiences.

Age group targeting never has and never will matter, honestly. If a group finds it interesting, they find it interesting.

My worse fear is that my kid would someday come across and like Barney the dinosaur, now I see there are worse things! LOL

The scariest thing I've seen at the game store was a 40 year old man playing pokemon all descked out in his fan gear and carrying around his stuffed animals in his fan bag. Strange dude... we always kept on eye on him.

On a side note, dont be a pedophile on the sex offender list and try to hang out at a game store where off duty cop gamers hang out. It will not end well and will include the use of handcuffs in the game store. True story! LOL

Barney's definitely worse lol. I've watched it with my stepdaughter, and it has a Warner Bros. cartoon feel to it, making it rather amusing. For the record, I don't dress in spandex for ANYBODY

This is disgusting. What is wrong with the pony fandom? How can you not be embarassed to approach people in public shrieking about 'Pinkie Pie!!'. Grown men/women obsessed over a children's cartoon. I had the misfortune of encountering a group like this at Gencon, trying to bleed their pony fandom into normal games. People thankfully ostracized them into their own little group and they left the rest of us in peace.

The Hate is swelling in you now. Take your Jedi weapon. Use it. I am unarmed. Strike me down with it. Give in to your anger. With each passing moment you make yourself more my servant.

Oh I'm so sorry, I had no idea this thread's mere existence was such a personal inconvenience to you and your enjoyment of the game! Please explain how your feelings take precedence over everybody else's here in yet more detail! I'm sure everybody will understand how the thread is ruining things for you!

Apparently you didn't understand what I was saying. I guess I'm not surprised seeing your self-described background. You're responding exactly how I'd expect.

Good I can feel your anger. I am defenseless. Take your weapon. Strike me down with all of your hatred and your jouney to towards the dark side will be complete!

Rule 34 is a pretty scary thing sometimes. Gotta love the internet for the ability to make a mockery of things regardless of the original content. Or make them even more awesome, as some things tend to be on a very rare case by case basis, if you're into that sort of thing. :3c

Keep in mind we have Wave 4 coming out. If you wait, my suggestion would be:

X-wing, luke with R2- Twilight Sparkle & spike

B-wing- Applejack

A-wing- Rainbow Dash

HWK- Rarity

Z-95- Fluttershy

Y-Wing- Pinkie Pie

E-Wing- Derpy Hooves

YT-1300 M. Falcon- Big Mac

As for imperials?

TIE Advanced- Chrysalis

TIE Fighter- Changelings

TIE Phantom- Nightmare Moon

TIE Defender- Sombra

TIE Interceptor- Shadowbolt

TIE Bomber- I have no idea

Lamdba- Celestia or Angel

Firespray- Discord

It's scary to think that if I ever make it out to Madness and play you in one of the Friday night league games, that I will probably get my ass kicked by a guy that not only knows all the Ponies, but will probably be singing "Alabaster Space Bison" to the theme song of the MLP show at the same time, lol.

Two things, one, I have been told that one of the people creating the pony show used to be the genius who brought us the power puff girls, so awesomeness should be no surprise.

Two, you don't need to add anything to MLP searches online to start finding the suggestive, violent and just plain strange. My daughters know which things are for them and which to avoid.

Sable, C'mon.

We all know Applejack would fly the Y-Wing.

You're a good parent if you help your kids when searching the internet. There are a lot of things out there that are not appropriate indeed.

It's to be expected, but not something to be welcomed, that there are things related to MLP and other cartoons that are not suitable for kids, and not all people who create R34 art of the characters think their work merits a filter on it. Some are relatively safe and pretty implicit, but it's not too often you'll find one like that.

But you're right in that the creator of the show was Lauren Faust, who made The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends. She's gone on to other things at the moment, but MLP was special to her and she's pretty upset that she had to leave. She had a lot of plans for where to take the story and wanted to make the show quite epic in scale eventually. She was the one who thought of putting in a character who is an expy of Q from Star Trek, too. Her concept of having the main characters be strong female archetypes is something I admire as well, and it makes the show very fun to watch because they're not stupid or obnoxious. Well, Pinkie Pie can be, but even she has episodes in which you see that she's not just some oblivious goofball; she has feelings, and can become sad or angry. It's so refreshing that I can't help but love it, and I'm glad Hasbro decided to ask Lauren if she would take the reigns of this show when they were developing their network.

I did forget to mention that the songs in the show are also praise-worthy. Two of them were Emmy-nominated: Find A Pet and Becoming Popular. The latter is something a lot of people think is from something else besides MLP, at least until they catch the word "everypony" in the lyrics. The Smile Song is one I love to listen to because, even after a year and a half of being a brony, it still brings a smile to my face by the end, no matter what mood I'm in. Daniel Ingram, the man who writes the songs, is incredibly talented, and I'm so glad they found him.

Okay, 2.5 pages of attacks/defense and such can we please get back to what ponies should be which space ship?

I'll start.

Applejack is a Y-wing cause she is strong and in it for the long haul.

Fluttershy is a B-wing cause they don't look like much but they can do some things that are not expected of them.

Rarity is a HWK cause she is useless by herself but works great supporting friends.

Rainbow Dash is a A-wing cause of the insane movement.

Pinkie Pie as the M. Falcon with Han as she is the Puckish Rogue that comes through when needed.

Twilight Sparkle & Spike X-wing, Luke w/ R2d2. Duh main character and sidekick.

I'd like to hear thoughts on the villains with reasons. I don't know them that well.

And remember to have fun.

haaaaaay Rarity ain't usele-... *sigh* Even if she is my number one, I have to admit she's not much good at 1-1 stuff, but it's extra fitting because underestimating her is a bad idea and yeah, she's the support. This works well for me as it means best pony gets best ship. :P

AJ, definitely a Y-Wing. Old fashioned and reliable.

Twi? X-Wing. Versatile. However I'd put her in an E-Wing once those come out, since they're just as fussy as they are powerful.

Dash? C'mon ya' even gotta' ask? A-Wing.

Pinkie gets the B-Wing. It's crazy, unconventional, and once it gets started there's just NO STOPPING IT.

Finally, Flutters get the Z-95. Why the chuddiest, crappiest fighter? Because you horribly, horribly underestimate it. Doesn't look like much in a fight, but is far more than you bargained for if it's equipped right, and once it unleashes its fury (in this case missiles) well, you're in for a wild ride. Also Ion Missiles can totes count as her signature stare.

That or give Spike the Z-95. Poor sod.

Royal Sisters? Give 'em the Falcon, one each, mirroring each other but being different altogether. Falsehood and I have a disagreement on this, he thinks the Slave I would be very good for Luna, and in a thematic sense, Moon always following the Sun in the rise and fall, I really quite agree. But both are powerhouses. So either works. However you could give Nightmare Moon that there ship and it'd work just as well.

Ah, Villains... TIEs? Snips, Snails, Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon, just toss 'em around as one big TIE swarm of idiots and jerks. NMM, Slave I no doubt. Chrysalis? Give her that there Phantom. Get behind enemy lines, screw 'em up real good but don't withstand the power of love Military Grade Laser Cannons when confronted. TIE Interceptor for Trix, 'cause it's pretty formidable in its own right, but a showy glass cannon half the other time too, ya'know?

Sombra? Let's be generous and give the underrated fool a TIE Defender. Precisely because that dude is stupidly powerful but we just never really got to see it ya'know? He was clearly a force to be reckoned with, not messed with.

Honorable mention, let's get that royal (adorbs) couple in there too shall we? SA? If we gave Twi the E, we're giving Shining the X. Older and more reliable, steadier and proven, not anywhere near as unstable. But he could work as an E too, if we gave twi the X.

...BRB painting X-Wing best stallion's color scheme.

Cadance? Give the lass an HWK. Not too pretty, but see here's the thang. The HWK and the X work together so stupidly well it's like they were MADE for each other. You run those two together with say focus and escorting and whatnot, and you got yourself a thang that's seriously tough stuff.

Anyway that's my two obsessive cents on the matter. Anyone I forgot? I feel like I forgot someone.

Oh right. Discord. And the TIE Bomber and Advanced. Uh... Well Trixie works for the Advanced too, trying to compete with the X or E and just having some serious difficulty, but CAN get a leg up. Prefer Interceptor for her though. Discord though...

What the hell, give the chaotic sod a TIE Bomber. Wreak havoc and cackle, Q. Wreak havoc and cackle.

I would have put in them in the following order:

Twilight and Spike: Wedge + R2-D2 + PTL. Reason: Wedge is the most powerful X-wing in the game. Makes sense for the most powerful unicorn in Equestria to be assigned this ship. R2 because Twilight is good with shields, and PTL because she can do pretty much anything she wants, whenever she wants.

Applejack: Ibtisam + HLC. Reason: Applejack is the toughest member of the Mane Six, and is quite capable of dealing out significant damage due to her back legs being incredibly strong, hence the HLC.

Fluttershy: Kyle Katarn + Ion Turret + Moldy Crow. Reason: Flutters is not tough at all, and often goes out of her way to stay out of trouble (if you look at the compilation at the end of the Changeling battle, she's cowering, and was pretty much useless in the fight). But she does have The Stare, which can be represented by the Ion Cannon.

Rainbow Dash: Tycho Celchu + PTL + Hull Upgrade. Reason: Rainbow loves to get in and fight, and the double actions allowed by PTL would be very much in character with her ability to keep fighting even in the middle of a stressful encounter. Hull upgrade because she's as tough as Applejack.

Rarity: Dutch Vander + Ion Turret + R2 Astromech + Engine Upgrade. Reason: Rarity is a great support character and is very generous, which I think Dutch represents. The Ion Turret would be similar to what she did to the Diamond Dogs, and the R2 Astromech works well to allow her to go at top speed and use the Engine Upgrade to boost toward the TIE Fighter formations.

Pinkie Pie: Blue Squadron Pilot + Ion Cannon + AS + Engine Upgrade. The B-wing is a totally random starfighter, and I think Pinkie Pie's nature fits well with its personality, especially when you couple it with Advanced Sensors and an Engine Upgrade.

Princess Celestia: Han Solo + PTL + Assault Missiles + Gunner + Saboteur + Engine Upgrade + Millennium Falcon. Reason: Celestia is the most powerful alicorn in existence, and the crew the Falcon has will allow her to deal maximum damage. The Falcon title card and Engine Upgrade will allow her to perform any action she wants, and PTL allows her to do two of them. Assault Missiles because this will affect multiple ships, like she's been shown to be capable of in the show.

SOoooo, I was at a LGS watching a game when the young player started flying his empire a bit randomly. Vader flew off away from combat, Fel flew off the board and steele was jogging.

So a couple of the guys and me watching started talking about why Vader is flying away. Our conclusion is that Vader was watching the newest episode of My Little Pony being directly piped into his helmet. We got a few laughs about Vader being a Broni.

Then the older player said it would be fun to paint the rebels as MLP. So, we started figuring what ship was who. Here is what we got.

YT-1300 M. Falcon- Pinkie Pie

X-wing, luke with R2- Twilight Sparkle & spike

Y-wing- Applejack

A-wing- Rainbow Dash

HWK- Rarity

B-wing- Fluttershy

I was a fun talk and most had fun talking about it. What are your takes?
