Counterattack questions

By Sergey, in Tannhauser

While playing Tannhauser, I have never used Counterattack option - and recently while playing with my friend I tried to make it. As I decided to - many questions aroused at once:

1. If Schocktruppen makes counterattack on Brown (who has Current Combat Value - 5) and uses his lowest Combat Value - 4, does MP-40 adds bonus to Schocktruppen +1 to Combat Vlaue - in other words, when make counterattack - can counterattacker use his bonuses or not (may be not all bonuses?)?

2. Does the target of Counterattack should also use its lowest Stamina Value when making Shock Roll?

3. As I read in F.A.Q. - the unit, which makes Shock Roll cannot use bonuses from Weapons, only from Abilities - is it right?

4. And what about ability "Supernatural Strenght" when Stosstruppen makes Counterattack in Hand on Hand mode? Does he uses this bonus or not?

Much obliged for your help!

1. You use your lowest value but bonuses to CV and your roles are still applicable

2. Defender uses current CV and SV

3. If it's in the FAQ I'd say so. Makes sense since the counter would likely be unexpected.

4. I would think that's fine. Can't really see anyone being stupid enough to go hand-to-hand w/ him though

Basically you want to use counters on a wounded opponent to finish him off. Or, alternately, pray for a 10 on your flash gun. If your opponent has more hits left/higher values than your lowest than you shouldn't bother w/ countering unless you're on your last legs anyway and want to get the most out of him before the other guy roles a success.

It's also good for discouraging the run-bys and attacking Ozo in the event he's forced to leave his room to shoot you. Not likely to happen, but it sure comes as a surprise, especially if you get a natural 10 (or 9 as the case may be).

Thank's for expalnation.

By the way, in the case with Iron Crosses - they give Bonus Points once per game (one or two), or every turn?

BP last until you use them. They generally work best when you're going for a VP win

So, you have permanent BPs from Iron Crosses while playing game?

Until you use it, yes. Say the Iron Cross gives you 1 BP and you have 6 VP. You're close to winning via VP but if you don't use a Healing kit on one of your guys the Union will kill them and get 2 points bringing them to, say, 7 of the 8 they need and you'll drop to 5. Even if you get that major objective you've been working on the 2 of you will be tied only you'l probably be at a slight disadvantage. If you use the BP however you'll still be at 6 VP and getting that objective will win you the game.

Or if you play death match you might start with a base VP of 4 but b/c you used the medals you start with 8, giving you more options and making it a little easier to keep your guys alive.

Yes, I understand the situation. But I mean the following: as Iron Cross gives you 1 Bonus Point - and if you spend it during the game, is Iron Cross still gives you another 1 Point bonus, or it is given only once per game - untill you spend it? As it is said, Bonus Points from Iron Cross cannot be taken into account when you count your VP to determine the winner of the game.

The Iron Cross lets you start the game with 1 bonus point. When you use it, it is gone.

Thank you! Now all is clear to me.

I so not agree.

1) Lowest CV and no bonus that says "when making an attack" is allowed, however bonuses saying "when making a combat roll" applies.

2) Same

3) yup

4) Yes, because his ablility states "When making a combat roll"

As I understand it there is a difference to making attacks and counterattacks. An attack is an action that a character can make during his action. Therefore bonuses like the Schocktruppens gun says "When making an attack +1 and so on...

A counter attack is a responce to an action but is not an action in and by itself (ie you cannot simply counterattack during an action) therefore you aren't making an attack, but making a counter attack, so all modifiers that apply to making an attack does not take effect.

At least that's how I think it's intended.
