Firing Arc for YT 1300

By Davor, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I haven't played in a long while. Forgot a bunch of rules. My son wanted to try the Millennium Falcon, so we played a 31 point game so he can use the YT 1300 and R2D2. I am playing that he has a 360 firing arc. I noticed it also has a forward firing arc.

Why is that? Would that be for missiles? I can't remember if it came with a rule book or not. I can't find no rule book so not sure if I lost it for the Millennium Falcon.

What should I be looking for, the rules for the Millennium Falcon? I might still have them, since everything is scattered, but don't know what I am looking for.

Yes, the rules are in the Millenium Falcon. Still, even when you read them it is not as straightforward as it could be.

The firing arc for your YT-1300 is indeed only the area in front of the ship, the "forward firing arc" you mentioned. Having said that, the rules for the YT-1300 state that it may fire its main weapon at a target in or out of the YTs firing arc. So, when you are firing a weapon other than your main weapon (like missiles, as you noted) you are restricted to your forward firing arc just like any other ship. However, when firing your main weapon the special rules for the YT-1300 allows you to fire at ships regardless of whether or not they are in arc.

The reason it matters is for missiles like you said, and for other effects (like Backstabber's ability) that reference firing arcs. It is also worth noting that the Firespray actually has two firing arcs. Though the second one pointing backwards does not work for missiles/etc., it does work for the Firespray main weapon and it also counts as a firing arc for Backstabber's ability.

TL:DR, the firing arc points forwards but your main gun can shoot anywhere.

It is the "standard" firing arc that all ships have, it is the YT's extra ability which allows it to fire 360 degrees with its primary weapon.

e.g. the primary arc is still used for any missiles and more often comes into play against Backstabber.

Thank you guys, you have been a great help for me and my boy. Got another question. Are the rules on the cards or in a small booklet?

They were in the booklet that came with the Falcon.

Dang. At least I know what I am looking for now. Will look for it now.

Thanks for your help. I either misplaced it, or lost it. I found the book for the Slave One. I will buy another YT 1300 eventually. Is there anything on it that I really need to know, or am I ok with my Slave One book?

Davor, PM your address to me and I'll just send you my extra copy, if you want.

Thanks Lappenlocker, but I will be buying another YT soon. My son want's to fly 2 of them soon, so will buy one soon now than later.

Thank you for the offer.

I don't think there was anything else big in the YT-1300 book. It had the rules for modifications and titles, but the Slave I came with that too (or maybe those were printed on cards, I don't remember). It also had a reminder that uniqueness applied across card types (so you can't use Luke the X-Wing pilot and Luke the co-pilot upgrade in the same squad), which might not have been mentioned in the Slave I insert but is fairly intuitive.

I hope this helps. I also apologize for the side view. That's not how the photo's came out but when I uploaded them they got turned.

The JPGs are mostly unreadable, at least in my iPad. :(

Lets try with close ups (again, not sure why it is flipping the image sideways)

Much better. :)

Thank you very much, greatly appreciated. :)

I don't know if you were playing with house rules for your son to be able to run what he wanted, but the YT-1300 does not have an upgrade slot for astromech droids and is thus unable to equip R2-D2.

Am I understanding correctly that if Backstabber is outside of the "standard" firing arc of the YT, that his ability is still enabled on an attack? If this is correct, I played it wrong the other day.

Yes it's correct, in fact I think Backstaber vs YT-1300 is in the FAQ.

Although many of us think of the YT-1300 as having 360 degrees of "firing arc" that is not exactly true. It still has the same "firing arc" that everything else has but its primary weapon can engage targets outside of that arc. This means Backstabber gets his bonus even if it doesn't make perfect sense to all of us.

In contrast the Firespray has a "secondary firing arc" which DOES count as a firing arc. When Backstabber is behind a Firespray it do not get its bonus.

Thanks for the reminder. We are still learning the rules. He really wanted R2, so I gave it to him. Might have to house rule it next game if he really wants it again.

I thought that the Firespray's Auxiliary Firing Arc didn't count for Backstabber either, as it is clearly described as an Auxiliary Firing Arc instead of a Primary Firing Arc.

Yes, however Backstabber's ability doesn't require you to be out of their Primary Firing Arc, it requires you to be out of their firing arc period.

So, if you are behind a Firespray you are still in the defender's firing arc. Which firing arc is immaterial.

It is an Auxiliary Firing Arc, but it is still a Firing Arc. Backstabber needs to be outside of the defending ship's firing arc, not just primary firing arc.

On mobile at the moment so can't copy it over, but this question is specifically in the FAQ, and refers explicitly to the printed firing arcs on the ship base.
