I played a very long game last night - it went probably something like 15 turns (Longest I've played) and it really opened my eyes to some things that I hadn't fully appreciated before.
He was using:
Soontir Fel - stealth device + Push the Limit
Fel's wrath - stealth device
Major Rhymer - Advanced proton torp +cluster missile + Proton Bomb
And I had my Blood Squadron - the cheapest versions of 5 rebels ships:
A-Wing
B-Wing
X-Wing
Y-Wing
HWK + Ion Turret
My build was really just a "fun" build because I had them all painted and just wanted to use them in a list... but the game was insane.
The reason this game lasted so long was bizarre. I was able to take out the bomber and Soontir Fel pretty early, AND had Fel's Wrath down to a single hull point left.... so I only needed 1 damage to win... but he was able to fly fel's wrath like an absolute champ and manuevered himself to be behind asteroids, or at range 3 of my ships... or not in range of all.... And when I was shuffling my low-mobility ships around he'd dash in and rolled amazing dice to take one out.
I knew the basics, but I re-learned some important lessons in this game:
Interceptors have an AMAZING dial.
smart use of boost can be the difference between being shot at range 2, vs being at range 3 and getting that extra die.
Y-Wings have a poor dial.
HWK's have an even worse dial!
Pilot skill is probably underrated - it made a HUGE difference in this game.
Anyways it was probably the most interesting game I've ever had. Here is the video of it if you are interested.
