Yeah squad advice again...BBAA

By SolennelBern, in X-Wing

After trying 2 A-Wings as flankers and seeing how good those ships are when positioned accordingly I want to include them in a new squad I wanna try.

I bought a second B-Wing yesterday and want to give a BBAA squad a ****. So here it goes:

- Ibtisam + FCS + HLC + Swarm Tactics

- Dagger + AdvS

- Prototype Pilot x2

That or drop the Dagger to a Blue and upgrade the Prototypes to Greens?

Ibtisam will shoot from afar and give a Prototype or Dagger some more PS. Dagger will be a bit more proactive with Sensors and the Prototypes will do their thing and attack from the dead angle as often as they can.

What do you think?

sounds good hate to see rebel scum using swarm tactics

Hahahah I'm hesitating between Swarm Tactics and Squad Leader...

A free action or the chance to fire before the enemy...

Hello,

Perhaps you can alternative build here : http://fabpsb.free.fr/mindex.php .

I added a new feature that allow you to build part of your squadron in the manual mode and tranfert it in the random mode. By locking the ship with cards you want to keep you can let the tool generate the rest of the squadron, perhaps the force we will bring you a nice build ;-)

bye

The problem with the a wing is lack of firepower of course. I'm toying around with a BBAH. Using Jan to throw the a wing an extra die is the plan. The A can flank stuff and actually have the firepower to do something once it does. Combined with an ICT on the Hawk I think it will be a potent combination

Well my last game I had great dice luck and my A-Wings downed 1 Bomber and finished a Shuttle by themselves. Sure it won't happen every game but it was a **** blast seeing the 2 As, in formation, blasting down ships like that. So i'm not that worried about firepower and i'm aware they won't be that good in some games.

But I really like your BBAH idea and I might try it soon. I'm a fan of ICT and the Hawk so it could be a great complement to the squad.

If I were fighting your squad I would be focus firing the B wings. They aren't fast so I know where they will be making range 1-2 shots easy to achieve.

It seems like all your eggs are in the Ibtisam basket, maybe IM wrong but it seems like if you swapped the HLC to the dagger it would make target priority a little harder. Also not a huge fan of A-wings but if you can make them work go for it. Just know that your two B wings will take a beating while the A's line up flanking shots.

I will point out that if you stripped everything down to the minimum, you'd be able to afford a 3rd B-Wing (22+22+22+17+17=100)

I agree 100% with this.

I've been having moderate success with 2 blue squadron, 2 prototypes, and a rebel operative hwk with ion. I keep the b's abd hwk together and set my a's as flankers.

I played a ABBA list... I think they should officially be known as the "Dancing Queen List".

Of course I'm not sure how many people will get that.

Anyway, I liked it. It's 2 Green Squad w/PtL and 2 Blue Squad with AdvSen and Ion Cannons. I found the best way to fly it was to split it up into two AB groups and have them work to support each other.

Modified my squad a bit and I think i'm gonna try that tonight:

blank.gif?v56 Dagger Squadron Pilot + Heavy Laser Cannon (31)
blank.gif?v56 Blue Squadron Pilot + Advanced Sensors + Engine Upgrade (29)
blank.gif?v56 Green Squadron Pilot + Push the Limit (22)
blank.gif?v56 Prototype Pilot (17)

But I also thought about that one:

blank.gif?v56 Biggs Darklighter + R2-D2 (29)
blank.gif?v56 Ibtisam + Fire-Control System + Heavy Laser Cannon (37)
blank.gif?v56 Prototype Pilot (17)
blank.gif?v56 Prototype Pilot (17)

Biggs could try to protect the most ships for as long as he can. Mostly be near Ibtisam most of the time.

David if I had to chose which squad I was most worried about it would be squad 2. I can't wait to see what u bring out tonight should be fun. I have 3 builds for tonight so I may choose at random

Oh and one of them has a Doom shuttle ;) just so u know!

Hahahah again!!??! :P

Cool, can't wait to see if i'll roll better this time cause last time was pathetically sad...

OH??!?!?

blank.gif?v56 Ibtisam + Fire-Control System + Heavy Laser Cannon + Stealth Device (40)
blank.gif?v56 Blue Squadron Pilot + Advanced Sensors (25)
blank.gif?v56 Prototype Pilot (17)
blank.gif?v56 Prototype Pilot (17)

It's generally accepted that a steath device on a low agi ship is a waste of points. Better off with a shield upgrade. Odds of that SD blocking even a single hit is pretty low.

There's a thread, guessing 3-4 pages back by now that has the math for it.

Hmmmm k... :(

hahah, Shield upgrade though, but not sure for 4 points...

Could try something like that:

blank.gif?v56 Ibtisam + Heavy Laser Cannon + Swarm Tactics + Shield Upgrade (41)
blank.gif?v56 Blue Squadron Pilot + Advanced Sensors (25)
blank.gif?v56 Prototype Pilot (17)
blank.gif?v56 Prototype Pilot (17)

OH??!?!?

blank.gif?v56 Ibtisam + Fire-Control System + Heavy Laser Cannon + Stealth Device (40)
blank.gif?v56 Blue Squadron Pilot + Advanced Sensors (25)
blank.gif?v56 Prototype Pilot (17)
blank.gif?v56 Prototype Pilot (17)

So, something I've been playing around with... Ibby w/ Elusiveness + Sensor Jammer + Stealth, but I keep thinking those 3 points are wasted, for reasons I'll get to in a minute.

If played properly, the supporting cast of prototypes block the opponent, denying them an action. As such, they're shooting without a focus, and ibby can change a hit to a focus via sensor jammer. If we take a look at a 3 dice attack, they will roll 2 damage 37.5% of the time, and 3 hits 12.5% of the time. One of these gets changed to a focus, so they'll roll 1 hit 37.5% and 2 hits 12.5% of the time.

Then, elusiveness kicks in, changing a hit to a miss 50% of the time, so they'll roll 1 hit 25% of the time, and 2 hits 6.25% of the time.

Ibby is now stressed and has 2 evade dice. But lets say she doesn't have a focus. She has a 47% chance to roll 1 evade, and 14% chance to roll 2. But then she has her reroll. Which actually means she has a 27% chance to roll 1 evade and a 34% chance to roll 2 evades.

So, the chances of the opponent rolling 3 hits (then taken down to 2 via SJ) and getting at least one through is 4%. The chances of him rolling 1 hit and getting 1 through is 9.75%. Overall, the opponent has a 15% chance to hit Ibby and strip the SD.

Sounds great, right? Well, the real problem with it is that your blockers typically aren't in location for the first round of engagement. As such, the opponent will have a focus, which throws all of this math out the window. And Ibby likely loses the SD in the first shot. It was fun to try out, but not really worth doing.

Another problem being that in that list, Ibtisam has FCS, not Sensor jammer...

Ibitsam is a special case though. Though if you are going to put stealth device on her it's usually better to go all out with Sensor Jammer and either elusiveness or at least ptl. At least from my experience.

Just providing an alternative if he wants to use SD on a B wing. Ibby also doesn't have elusiveness (or any way to stress her) on his list.

Well guys, i'm sad now...I thought it was an ok squad...That is why I suck at this game, not just because of the dice.

I really want to try HLC though, in fact I want a "all in your face" squad with lots of firepower and if possible 2 ships.

I've had great luck with a pair of A-Wings in my last 2 games, so much that I want to pair them again using Bs. B-Wings are great ship even though they move like a one-legged leper gnome but they can hit hard when needed.

Should I ditch Ib for Ten?

Here's another list I don't think I want you to play tonight it kinda scares me

Blue Squadron Pilot — B-Wing 22

Fire-Control System 2

Heavy Laser Cannon 7

LOL I have the same except I have PTL on a Prototype.

I just like having 1 named pilot in my squads, dunno why, just like it. Help define a bit more a squad thematically for me.

But great idea the 2 Blues with HLC...I really want to try HLC.

But the Blues are low PS and your squads often have higher PS and I want to be able to fire at least once tonight :P

You could try the generic ABBA squad:

Blue w/ AdvS

Blue w/ AdvS

Green w/ PTL + Stealth

Green w/ PTL + Stealth

Or, if you pull the AdvS and Stealth, you have 12 points... You could spend them this way

Blue w/ HLC

Blue w/ Autoblaster

Green w/ PTL

Green w/ PTL

With the logic being that you keep the two blues together, and the opponent can either rush to get the R1 on the HLC, and suffer the autoblaster, or stay at range and the HLC gets lots of love :) .

I don't think it's particularly competitive, but should be fun.
