That's really too bad. They should have allowed the black bordered cards under these conditions:
1) All cards in the deck are sleeved
2) If a black bordered card has a white bordered counterpart with errata on it, the errata must be used. But the black bordered card can still be used as a proxy.
The way it is now, it's like FFG wants to wash their hands of the black bordered cards. I know I'm not going to buy multiples of the core set just to get 3 of each card. And I'm starting to feel burned that I invested in the black bordered sets.
So, is that 1 X core plus 3 X AP or 3 X both?
Anyone knows when it'll be set ?
(I dream of a real world championship in Stahleck ...) ^^
Wow, it really came unexpected.
Ehrrr. No actually that wasn't unexpected at all, Ron Kowitca posted it half a year ago and was naysayed into oblivion.
Yes, nothing unexpected here. FFG wants to move forward and moving forward means promoting LCG. I applaud FFG for just posting all LCG events and not trying to BS us with some kind of crippled legacy format, where you could use one copy of a given black-bordered card. I would rather just remember the CCG black-bordered cards fondly and move forward, rather than have a format that mocks my nostalgic days by letting me "kind of, sort of, but not really at all" play with my old cards.
"The desert was the apotheosis of all deserts, huge, standing to the sky for what looked like eternity in all directions. It was white and blinding and waterless and without feature save for the faint, cloudy haze of the mountains which sketched themselves on the horizon and the devil-grass which brought sweet dreams, nightmares, death. An occasional tombstone sign pointed the way, for once the drifted track that cut its way through the thick crust of alkali had been a highway. Coaches and buckas had followed it. The world had moved on since then. The world had emptied."
- The Dark Tower, vol. I, The Gunslinger
The CCG world has emptied. The game has moved on. If you like the LCG, pick up your guns and continue the quest. If not, best of luck on your journeys near and far.

The World Championship at GenCon? At GenCon, I'd imagine.
Jim's post is a little more sunshine and flowers than my assesment but ends pretty close. They screwed up Black Border so much they don't know how or want to try to fix it. It's not making them any money and pretty much all the old players are gone so why do anything for those that are left? The CCG world hasn't so much emptied as been purged and force evacuated to make the LCG your only choice. The CCG was fun while it lasted, even with all the terrible cards later on (and currently) and produced three world champs, so it wasn't a terrible run. I'm interested to see if Black Border is mentioned in he 'the State of Game' address if one is forth coming. So long and thanks for all the Deep Ones.
Donald
they have paul set to run these games. hopefully they find someone to replace him before gencon.
Dear FFG, If 3 X core is allowed, please allow black border versions of the legal core cards for tournament play.

Yay!
Looks like the real World Championships will be in Europe this year then...
I think it's absolute crap that FFG is turning it's back on the CCG cards
. When I construct decks I use all available cards and see no difference between LCG and CCG in terms of game function. Now it seems they are telling me that I'm wrong. We were assured the two were compatable with the addition of sleeves, which I use anyway. This behavior on their part to "forget" a huge chunk of the game has seriously got me pissed off, if I'd have known that this is the tack that they would take, I would not have bought ANY on the new stuff and just called it a dead game. (which is prolly why they kept quiet).
Look, I know that in casual games mixing the two is fine and that FFG will not break down my door and take away my cards. But if they don't support some kind of format in their leagues and tourneys that allows the mixture at some point in the near future, they have just lost a customer. I love this game, and my opinion is that the LCG is ( or should be) a continuation and not a reboot. And I know that not everyone who plays that way is vocal enough to post on these boards, so I speak for them as well.
Wake up, FFG, don't betray us like this.

I agree too that it's crap. Very annoying that they want to act as though the black border cards don't exist. The only way to resist this is to keep using them.

Yeah, but as soon as they announced they were doing this with Game of Thrones, I assumed it was happening for us. So really, I got over it quite a while ago. In fact, my entire playgroup has been using nothing but white borders for the past several months.

When was this?

I don't really feel betrayed. The arguments that they made for switching to strictly white border all made sense to me when I read it in the GOT forums. From a business and design perspective, I'm okay with them rebooting. When all is said and done, its the game that I love, not the individual cards.
What I'm pissed about it is the complete lack of communication on their part. FFG knew **** well that they were going to do this with Cthulhu half a year ago, so why did we never get told? GOT gets a long letter to the community, a requiem letter by Nate, and a state-of-the-game address. What have we ever gotten? We continue to be the neglected step-child, with FFG never bothering to even tell us what's going on.
I can only take so much of feeding off the scraps on the GOT table. I'm really getting sick of this.
Actually I like the white border reboot in a "Nya nya nya I told you so" kind of way

Well, I not american and don't know a single thing about the dates the team of this event planned to scheduled. Might you tell me a little more ?
I would like to add something else. Even if we were told we can use mixed format with the use of sleeve (@ Cannon : first announcement of the apparition of white boarders, on the 2nd forum), I feel normal about these new step, getting into a white boarders environment (even if the color is awful).
But it's BS -ting me to see that we do not deserve a post from FFG on the board to ask what kind of tourney we should appreciate.
I assumed the futurs nationals will be based on the same format, and the French Nationals shouldn't follow this path ! We want EVERY players to join in and play Black, White and mixed boarders with no problems. At least, we'll run a highlander, a mixed constructed and a white league event. Let everyone use his card with no problematic restriction except the rules of x3 !
The two (LCG and CCG) are compatible using sleeves- CCG just isn't legal for Worlds. I would imagine black-bordered versions of reprinted LCG cards would be allowed, but I don't know for certain.
I agree with everything that cannon said: I saw this change coming a long time ago. Watch Game of Thrones and you will see Cthulhu's future. Anyone who didn't at least think there was a possibility of all LCG at Worlds and other major events was living in denial.
As to your other point, Chris: I agree that Cthulhu is, and always has been, the second-class citizen to Game of Thrones. And it continues to puzzle me. The only link I can find, and it is tenuous at best, is that the past few CCG/LCG people at FFG have been former Game of Thrones players. So, maybe they subconsciously lean towards the game they are more intimately familiar with. But that doesn't seem to account for the lack of timely information, when they could have released a blanket statement for both games on several occasions.
So, I have no idea why Cthulhu seems to fall behind the information curve.

Nope! It's all in the file I linked to.
ohhhhhh, OK! I can't stand it when you make those baby Albino Penguin eyes......

CGM - Non-Collectible/Tradable Card Game Call of Cthulhu LCG
Fri August 14 11:00 AM to Fri 6:00 PM
Can you cut to the top 8 with only 6 players?
I think Jim has it right, no one involved with the game actually cares about it, it's just a part of the job they want to get over with so they can get back to AGoT. I don't remember Nate or Morgan walking around at all during the Championships, just sitting at the head table BSing. Even when I'm running a two man tournament at the FLGS with veteran players, I still spend at least half the time watching and making sure everything is going smoothly. The interest at FFG just isn't there.

some irony here, cause a lot of AGOT players complain about the lack of communication.
maybe kingdom hearts and UFS get all the love from FFG??
We are at least lucky that amid these concerns, the cards keep coming. It's really a contradiction, the release of a nice Julia set and the relative vaccuum in support. There's still time. But there is also missed potential of momentum. We know there's to be a championship. He have the three Tides spoilers. Thank you Marius. We read the AGOT tea leaves and over the years have become quite good at guessing the trajectory. My ranking worry is for a next set to be announced. Behind that falls the other aforementioned important points: information, a FFG presence, black borders. No one answered, but I will assume the new format to be 1Xcore, 3XLCG AP, no black border substitutes. But you gotta like Pagan Hall!
The lack of official communication has had me thinking for a while that the subtitle chosen by FFG for A Game of Thrones LCG was unintentionally apt:
A Game of Thrones LCG
The Only Game That Matters...
Indeed....very apt.
I hope something is done soon by FFG...an expansion...anything...

No, an Asylum pack was just spoiled. An "expansion" in LCG terms is something very different. Take a look at the new expansion announced for AGOT.
