I just purchased a few of the Future Armada ships from Paizo and wanted to load some of the maps into Roll20. Unfortunately the maps are PDFs, before I start trying to re-invent the wheel I wanted to see if anyone who has used these in Roll20 had a quick way to load them in as maps.
Question on Roll20 and loading PDFs as maps
If you don't have a means to export/convert it to .jpg .png or .gif format, you can always do the quick and dirty method of opening it in your pdf viewer, sizing it to fit the screen, then taking a screen shot and paste the result into whatever paint program your OS has. Won't be as high quality but it'll do in a pinch.
Alternately you can try stitching together multiple zoomed in screenshots if you need that extra detail.
I use Future Armada in my Roll20 campaigns. I use the free program GIMP 2.0
usually Future Armada comes with a Color Maps folder, meant for easy printing to paper sized sheets and then taping together. I open that PDF with GIMP and select each page to be a imported to GIMP as a layer. I then crop each layer to cut off all the white surrounding the color art section. As I crop them, I piece them together, like a puzzle. Any changes you want to add to the map, like the trees and damage to the Sa Nalaor map below, I suggest you do within GIMP. Roll20 will begin to lag the more different items you have.
Here are some shots of my maps in Roll20.
Future Armada maps can be seen in Argos 3 Suyama Estate, Sa Nalaor, Sa Nalaor 2, The Lucky Guess, The Lucky Guess 2.
Thanks
