Weapon Reroll Squad List

By Keiththegamergeek, in X-Wing

I've been toying with an Imperial squad using ships that benefit from rerolls.

Krassis Trelix with Heavy Laser Cannon (43)

Captain Jonus with Cluster Missiles, Concussion Missiles, and Proton Torpedoes (x2) (38)

Howlrunner with Veteran Instincts (19)

The ships start with Trelix flanked by Jonus and Howlrunner. Trelix uses the HLC where possible, benefiting from the reroll on it he gets as well as the two additional he gets from Jonus when he uses a secondary weapon. If he has to use his primary weapon, Howlrunner gives him a reroll with it. Howlrunner can also harass dogfighters who get too close.

Way, way to much ordnance on Jonus, drop two pieces, add Rebel Captive to Trellix and PtL to Jonus and put a Stealth Device on Howlrunner and you have a list that will put up a fight at least.

All that ordnance seems like a good idea but you will never be able to fire it all.

and... .Jonus does NOT give himself rerolls, so his ability is almost useless

Yes, I know that. The purpose is obviously to give Trelix up to 3 rerolls when he uses the HLC.

I feel like Jonus is sort of a waste on Krassis as he already gets 1 dice reroll on a secondary weapon already. With a target lock or focus for a action there's a decent chance he might not even need Jonus's rerolls.

No one is going to point out that Howlrunner is useless in this list?

Suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Using the 3 ships you have chosen (and if my math holds up when I am not near my cards) try this.

Krassis Trellix, Rebel Captive, HLC (46)

Captain Jonus, PtL, Proton Torpedo, Proton Bomb (if I am over 100, use a Seismic Charge instead of the Proton Bomb)

Howlrunner, Stealth Device (21)

Howl can now help both Jonus and Krassis with primary weapon fire. Trellix basically has a target lock with the HLC and so should focus each turn. Shooting at Krassis auto stresses the first ship to do so each round. PtL on Jonus ensures the torp goes off with TL and focus and can then be used as required for any combo on Jonus dial as situations dictate. If you have a point spare due to Seismic being used in place of proton bomb, give Howl Determination.

Move one of the missiles over to Trelix, give him the Slave 1 title, and also move one of the Proton Torpedoes

I'd also recommend dropping one more ordinance off of Jonus to give Howlrunner an Academy wingman, to use as another blocker.

I have used a list very similar to this Jonus with success in a competitive league against a TIE swarm and a couple other squads. I have also played the following list once in the league, and intend to test it a few times more. It will likely be the list I take to my first Store Championship, of which I intend to play several.

Krassis Trelix+Heavy Laser Cannon+Recon Specialist

Howlrunner

3 Academies

Basic strategy: Keep my distance, move slow and make them come to me. Block them with the TIE group, keeping Krassis at range 3 as much as possible to focus 3 evade dice. Wail with focused HLC and cleanup damaged ships with the TIE group. Then if the Firespray has to turn, keep Howlrunner close so he still gets a reroll and a focus on his backwards shot.

Both Howl's and Jonus' abilities are wasted here. Jonus will be blown to bits before he can shoot his second piece of ordnance. Also, you know that you can only reroll once per attack, right?

If you want to try something fun with Jonus, you'll need at least two other ships with secondaries. Maybe something like this (although missles are still a waste on Krasis + HLC):

Captain Jonus + Concussion Missiles (26)

Gamma Squadron Pilot + Cluster Missiles + Assault Missiles (27)

Krassis Trelix + Concussion Missiles + Heavy Laser Cannon (47)
