So I finally have at least one of every ship, and I was looking for a new squad to try out and I came up with this:
Howlrunner + Shield Upgrade, Determination
Fel + PtL, Stealth
Backstabber + Engine Upgrade
2x Academy
The idea here is to put Howl and the 2 academies in one group, then use Fel and Backstabber to flank them. Any ideas/suggestions as to how viable this is?
I'm really thinking drop all the upgrades except PtL on Fel and add a third Academy. Even with the EU Backstabber may have a hard time hanging with Fel and if someone turns their attention to that pair then you're weakening the power of the TIEs coming in the other way.

But I think you lack some firepower. I agree with Steven0, using only two academies with Howlrunner isn't great, adding the third will help quite alot.
Leave the interceptor by himself out on the flank so he has lots of room for his fun maneuvers.
Closer to this? I just like Terd Ferguson better.

Alternately, I could use Stealth and get initiative at 99pts (or be able to add determination to Howl). Terd would be the same but with the possibility of 2pts of extra room.
It can be a hard call between Fel and Turr but keep in mind how PtL interacts with either of them and also note the times you want to shoot first with Fel. Either one could serve as a big, flanking, threat/distraction. Lots of options with the swarmlet. Could drop Shield and move Academy Pilots to Obsidian Pilots potentially gaining a PS advantage but if you're working on blocking that is no help and if you run into higher PS ships the points are wasted.

Yeah. Go for stealth instead. It is cheaper and had the potential to help you avoid more damage than the shield upgrade would.
Alright, I think I'll try it out next game session we do (just got the antimelanistic interstellar rhino, so I am going to try a buzzsaw shuttle today). As effective as I know swarms are, I am trying to not use one as much as possible simply because they are used so much. Swarmlets + something are more to my liking.
