"Back Home" List

By AlexW, in X-Wing

Playing around with some list ideas that aren't as cookie cutter and I haven't seen this one very much (though I did see it recommended somewhere), but wondering what people think of this list:

Luke R2-D2, Draw their Fire

Biggs

Rookie

Rookie

I tend to use Biggs a bit differently in that I like him to spread damage out rather than simply protect a more important pilot. This means that sometimes I'll put him in range to get shot while other times make sure he doesn't forcing my opponent to alternate targets and spread damage out from round to round.

Draw their Fire +R2D2 isn't original, I realize, but normally I see this setup on Wedge with Biggs. Putting it on Luke makes for a very "tanky" list but also allows for a four X-Wing list that isn't possible with the same setup with Wedge.

This is a staple solid for many players. It works well but requires flying cohesion so that Biggs and Luke can interact with each other and the rookies.

Rebels that fly together , die together :)

DTF + R2-D2 is usually put on Luke, so that he can dodge more of the natural damage coming his way, as he can then help Wedge survive as well.

Or in this case, two rookies, which I'll take over 1 Wedge every time.

Question, in my experience R2D2 is better off on Biggs, even with Draw Their Fir on Luke. Has kept Biggs and by effect all the other ships on the table several rounds longer. It does make your have l heavy hitter more durable but if you can keep them from getting shot for longer isn't that preferable?

You want R2-D2 on a ship that's going to take an occasional hit, not one that's getting focused down.

Because of its regenerative properties, your foes are going to want to take down the ship with R2-D2 in one or two rounds...which they want to do to Biggs anyway.

Giving it to a ship that also has Draw Their Fire, on the other hand, pulls a Crit off of the guy they're actually shooting at, which hits a shield, which will regenerate next turn, completely negating the crit in question.

A Critproof Biggs is definitely better than a regenerating Biggs, as that regen ain't gonna last forever.

Alternatively, if you want to have a regenerative Biggs, you'll want him to soak a few hits, flee combat, regenerate, and return, basically making him a Flanking Tank. An odd proposition, but it could work.

Draco nailed it. If Biggs draws fire, hands the crit off to Luke and he regens it, it is actually spreading fire around while keeping Biggs alive longer. thus drawing fire away longer.

The other thing that Draco mentioned is focus fire vs. R2 D2 and Luke is ideal for avoiding focus fire with that mini-focus every defense.
