Perhaps wishful thinking on my part, but it seems possible for Imperial Aces to arrive in the middle of store championship season. Is there a general rule for new releases on if/when they are tourney-legal?

In my opinion, if it drops in the middle of Store Champs...they shouldn't be legal until after all store champs are finished...thus making them legal for Regionals.

You are probably right, but then i would argue that how is it fair that Store X decided to have their Tourney before release where Store Y has their Tourney after release. Why should the player be penalized because they live in an area / has a store with poor timing?

Granted, i don't think there is anything in Imperial Aces that is going to be OMGWTFBBQIBROKETHETOURNAMENTSCENE!!!!111!!!111

We have to assume that FFG knows exactly when they will release Imperial Aces. The part i don't know is if the Stores are required to be completed with their Tourneys by a certain date.

Having different metas at different store championships does not penalize anyone. The only potential problem is immediately after they release when some players will have access to them while others may not have had them get to the store yet.

As far as rules go, according to the tournament rules, ships are legal for play only if they are listed in the tournament rules. So until the tournament rules are updated to include Imperial Aces the new ships will not be legal in tournament play (though if you want to use the alternate paint models with legal cards and upgrades nobody will stop you).

This. Only the approved products listed at the bottom of the tourney rules are legal. Therefore, they are illegal unless FFG says otherwise, even if you can buy them.

That's the same thing that was going on during the Kessel Run Tourney. Even if you had won a W2 ship in a previous tourney, it was illegal to use in other Kessel Run Tourneys.

I want to run Interceptors at the Store Championships and really hope Aces are legal. If not I still have a 4 Int list to throw out there.

As previously referenced, the tournament rules have this list. They can be found on the support page.

There is a list published by FFG that lists everything that's tournament legal. Currently it contains everything released but fir instance wave 3 wasnt legal yet at nationals even though it released at Gen Con, so access won't likely be legal at store champs. It will def be cleared by regionals
