Clarification on Padma's First R:

By griffinman01, in UFS Rules Q & A

Okay, after taking a look at Padma I've been tempted to build a deck around her but I wanted to clarify something first regarding her first R: ability.

The ability states exactly:

R: After you deal 3 or less damage to your opponent, your opponent loses 2 vitality.

Now my question is about how this exactly triggers.

If the attack is completely blocked and does no damage, does this enable a trigger of her ability?

My instinct is saying no because dealing no damage is different than dealing 0 damage (as in it got damage reduced to 0). Can anyone confirm or correct this?

i can say that dealing 0 damage is not dealing damage so its the same as it being blocked. dealing damage means when an attack is partially or not block and causes a vitality LOSS.

stamp for ziepnir...

Saying "After you deal 1, 2 or 3 damage to your opponent..." is slightly less wieldy.

Yes but it has been stated numerous times that 0 is not a value of damage in UFS. So it would not trigger her ability.

Precision please. Damage can in fact be 0, or even negative. However if the attack's damage is below 1 it doesn't DEAL damage.

not that it applies to this game much:

basic english says "not dealing damage"="dealing no damage"

Damage can be at 0. But when it comes to taking damage 0 is not a value of damage. 0 can however be a value of handsize for cards like Sole Survivor.

The new rules state:
8.3.3.10 An attack must cause a vitality loss of at least 1 or more to your opponent to be considered to have dealt damage.
8.3.3.11 Any effects that activate “if damage is dealt” (or any applicable synonyms), trigger at this step.

Explicit enough?
