So, I've never painted miniatures before, and the thread on making x-wing tokens really sexy was enough for me to get the oil-based paint sharpies, and, I thought they looked like they'd be a fairly good color, so I tried adding some engine glow...

I then used a fairly dry napkin and rubbed the paint off as best I could - leaving just paint in the "Nooks and crannies" and ended up with the following... I think they came out rather well - now to stop myself before I buy brushes and ruin everything I have

I've never painted a miniature before either, so this can't be considered an expert opinion, but I think they look good. I like the HWK best.

I really like it. They are nice and subtle improvements that add to the overall feel of the model - and that is often the best kind of adjustment one can make.

My wife got that for me for christmas - It's actually a planetarium, and projects the night sky onto the ceiling - though there's a death star added

Actually it was Yellow - I didn't have yellow, but I have 4 HWKS - so, I wasn't afraid to start on one

I remember it being blue, at least in Dark Forces.

This might not be so clear either though - I'm using my cellphone to take these, if you need something better, I can pull out the camera gear - I found that the marker just nudged into the engine area with no trouble - I then added a darker red with the "Brush" tip red sharpie, cause i was worried they were too bright.

I had painted my templates and tokens and had some extra time so i decided to do some highlights on my mini's

My Y-wing: Green on R2 and red on laser canons

X-wing: Blue on engine glow

A-wing: Blue on engine (could not reach inside so ringed the outside ring assembly)

Tie Advanced: red light on sides of wings

Tie Bomber: Red on ion engine

I also hi-lighted the lasers with red on the shuttles and Firespray.

The Aqua looks ok on the shuttle too

I can recommend doing some more mixing of colours, working more towards white at the center:
