7 Dice!

By Khyros, in X-Wing

So, I just realized, we can have our first use of 7 dice come wave 4. E wing + R2-F2 + Stealth + R3 + obstruction yields 7 defensive dice. And that's without even knowing what wingman or decoy does.

I know that we can get to 6 attack dice already (Jan + APT, Jan + Exp + R1) and soon we'll be able to get to 6 via Jan + Opportunist + R1, and wave 4 will have the Phantom + R1 + Opportunist, but I don't see any way to exceed that, unless Wingman gives the leader an extra attack. Since the EPT is already spent on Opportunist, there would have to be a systems upgrade or something to boost the attack dice up to 7.

It wasn't too long ago that 4 attack and 5 defense was the most you could achieve. (Wave 2 upped the A to 5 and the D to 6 via Expose + Stealth, Wave 3 upped the A to 6 via Jan and APT or Jan + Exp + R1)... I suppose the game is slowly getting a power creep, since we all seem to agree (as does the math, from .31 dmg at 1v1 to 1.11 dmg at 6v6) that more dice favor the attacker.

The red die vs. green die ratio is rough. I don't think we call this power creep yet...

More of a scale increase. If a 12pter came out with 3 red dice we could cry powercreep but with 3 PS 1 small ship bases clocking in at 25pts or more its now like they are just breaking apart old point structures.

Phantoms 4 reds come unmodified without effort as their cloak is an action. Sometimes it will have an action and be able to fire, but remember that 3 modified dice are usually better than 4 unmodified.

I wouldn't exactly call it powercreep. Getting extra attack die is either difficult or very costly to do.

And really, is that E-wing more difficult to hit than say, Fell with Stealth and Push the Limit, with 2 Focus tokens and an Evade, with similar situations?

We will have 7 attack dice with Imperial Aces. APT + Opportunist + Jan Ors. Tough to set up, but doable. :)

Thank you, I knew I was forgetting a combo. Now to just put that on Ibby, so Jan can give her SL and Dutch can give her a TL.

Wedge with APT (5) with Expose (1) with Jan Ors (1) = 7 dice total!!!

This also means that your opponent gets a -1 green with Wedges ability!!!

Expose only works on Primary weapons.

But Wedge's -1 Defense die works on any attack Wedge does.

Just chiming in. I believe expose only works on the primary weapon, "until the end of the round increase your primary weapon value by one...." So advanced protons wouldn't be impacted. I had hoped I could boost an hlc with expose previously and leaned I could not (secondary weapon).

Oops my bad! BUT that's still six dice

Point Blank (4), Expose (1), Jan (1)

Chuck in TL+F and BAM dead Tie Fighter!!!!

A focused 3 or 4 dice attack is quite often enough to one-shot an eyeball or squint.

A focused 3 or 4 dice attack is quite often enough to one-shot an eyeball or squint.

I don't know what game you're playing, but a focused 3 dice attack vs 3 naked agility only does 1.22 average damage. Even if we increase that to 4 attack, it's only doing 1.91 damage.

A focused 3 or 4 dice attack is quite often enough to one-shot an eyeball or squint.

Specifically:

TIE without focus:

  • 10.3% chance of 3 hits with 3 focused attack
  • 31.93% chance of 3+ hits with 4 focused attack

TIE with focus:

  • 2.22% chance of 3 hits with 3 focused attack
  • 12.24% chance of 3+ hits with 4 focused attack

TIE with focus at range 3:

  • 0.8343% chance of 3 hits with 3 focused attack

TIE without focus at range 3:

  • 6.4373% chance of 3 hits with 3 focused attack

3 dice vs 4 dice, unmodified:

  • 1.9073% chance of 3 hits with 3 focused attack

The last one happened in the first round on the Worlds 2013 Finals table. Biggs one-shot Dark Curse at range 3.

So, sometimes it happens, and epic tales and ballads are written about it. :)

Is it me or that all these setup with the insane amount of attack dice or the ones with an insane amount of defense dice (7 attack, 7 defense) are all republic/rebel? The only saving grace for the imperial is the Phantom... ... ...
