Developing List: Crazy Eights

By Eruletho, in X-Wing

So, I was thinking about the easiest way to counter as many lists as possible, and somewhere along the way my brain sidetracked me into trying out an A-wing with Deadeye or PTL and an assault missile to ace a swarm, and using a B-wing and X-wing to fly cover for said A-wing. Originally I was thinking Garven, Green, Dutch, Naked Dagger, but then wanted to try for all the ships to have the same pilot skill. Choosing 8, because there is a PS8 of all three ship types I wanted, and because it shoots second, I developed the following:

Luke Skywalker (28)

-R2-D2 (4)

Tycho Celchu (26)

-Assault Missile (5)

-Push the Limit (3)

Ten Numb (31)

-Advanced Sensors (3)

This equals 100 points exactly, but seems a bit light on the offensive power once Tycho's missiels are away. True, all 3 ships should be really hard to take out, and they don't have to stick in any formation to be effective. I haven't seen any elite pilot builds using Tycho recently, and wanted to have another go at one. Thoughts?

I like it. I wonder if Ten would be better used with Marksmanship than AdvS though. I see the allure to both, and would probably have to play test it to figure it out. He does have a natural 33% to roll a crit, though with Marksmanship, he has a 75% chance of rolling at least 1 crit. At R1, those numbers increase to 41% and 98% respectively.

Stealing my thread titles huh? Awesome. Makes searching harder though. Oh well.

Tycho is awesome but does he bring anything offensively that a GSP does? No. Defensively? No. Fun to not have to worry about PTL stress, yep, but is fun worth those extra points? Usually no.

I actually thought that the Developing List titles were being used by multiple people, then after I posted it I searched and realized that it was just you... lol

The reasons for Tycho were two-fold: He doesn't care about the stress, so is a better dogfighter after the missiles are gone, and he is PS8, which was part of the secondary goal for the squad (all the same pilot skill.) Originally I had a GSP in there, but I wanted to buff the pilot skills above the PS4 threshold that has taken over Rebel fleets

Stress is a growing part of the game. I'm starting to see lists like Scarlet Cowgirl and the like making use of Rebel captive, and then the large ships are going to be able to put stress on ships, not to mention some of the card text on the W4 EPTs mention stress tokens. So I like his inclusion - he can eat the stress from rebel captive, allowing Ten and Luke to shoot stress free, and he is pointless to stress from the large ships (though that does mean they can easily slicer tool him for dmg)... but the big ships don't really matter right now, do they?

Yeah Tycho seems overcosted - 7 pts for +5 PS and ignore stress is a bit much (considering how easily a green sheds stress anyway). Too bad because I like him.

My version of the Crazy Eights was a list I came up with at the start of Wave 2, using Horton with ion cannon instead of Ten Numb. This is probably a better version for offensive punch, although an ion is always nice to have...

Well, you could sub Horton w/ ICT + PT for Tycho. Given then you lose the wonderful ability of the assault against a swarm. But Ions are effective against the swarm too. And you'll roll 3.31 hits with the PT on Horton even without a focus. That's going to do some damage.

If Tycho can start eating other ships stress I think he'll start to gain some value.

Hey I did this one too using Luke, Ten, and Horton... If I remember correctly

Luke + R2-D2

Ten + autoblaster

Horton + Ion Turret

But may give Tycho a whirl instead of Horton.

I got to use my above list last night, switching Advanced Sensors for the reccomended Marksmanship. My opponent ran Wedge with R2D2 and a shield, Luke with a shield and a 1-point pilot skill (can't remember what), and Tycho with PTL.

I absolutely wrecked him. My alpha strike killed Luke, and the asteroid placement and me slow-rolling as much as possible the first three rounds convinced Wedge to break the wrong way. Ten poked a crit through on Luke immediately from range 3, then the assault missiles did 2-3 damage to Luke and 1 to Tycho, and my Luke critted him for the early kill. My Tycho chased down Wedge and stayed behind him as he turned to re-engage, while my Luke and Ten confronted Tycho. It was scary how well the list (which I build to be able to handle swarms) handled another elite rebel build.

Granted, it wasn't the most optomized build ever, but the Crazy 8s felt really good flying together
