Marek Stele-In the Future.

By Arthur Volts, in X-Wing

Apart from the shortcomings of the Tie Advanced, anyone think that Stele MAY have a place on the table against the large ships? I'm sure some of those damage cards can be catastrophic.

Cluster missiles against a Captial ship could yield some one turn deaths if their shields are down.

Is it still better to kit out one of the Bombers than get him on the board and go for raw damage?

I also feel he should be 25 pts and not 2 points less than Vader. It's always worth spending those 2 points.

I am going to say yes. High hull paired with low agility is just asking for Mareek to say hello. The reinforce option might hinder any cluster missile shenanigans but I think he'd still do decent against them, and with the added bonus of being a better dogfighter than a bomber once the huge ships are down and his missile spent.

Maarek Stele In the Future is the name of my Cantina Band cover band.

I'm curious as to whether anyone has taken Vader w/ Squad Leader with Maarek to give Maarek a target lock on top of Marksmanship... That seems the easiest wat to get the most out of Steele without spending a ton of points, and once Maarek eats it, Vader is still useful to the rest of the squad too

I think, with the boosts Y-wings are getting (4-5 new Astromechs, including the amazing R7-T1, plus the Flechette Torpedoes), I could see an argument for using Marek Stele more. However, Wave 4 has a rather shortage of hull. 3 ships only have 2 Hull. If the new ships are popular, I wouldn't recommend Marek.

Of course, there are 4 new Elite Talents coming. Let's see if any of them work better with him than Marksmanship.

Yeah, the low hull totals in this wave are going to hurt him for sure, but it really depends on how they're used. If we only see them in small numbers per list, even if they end up in a ton of lists, then it won't be so bad. Plus two of those three only have 2 agility so he'll at least have a good damage output discounting his ability.

And of course the large hull points on the Transport and tantitive will help in epic play at least.

I'm going to force the Advanced into acceptance.

Has anyone taken out Vader, Stele and Academy x2 with any success?

I'm struggling with wanting to get another, but it seems like a lame duck.

Vader + Squad Leader + Assault Missile

Stele + Cluster Missile

Bounty Hunter

OR

Subbing in two Black squadron TIEs with some upgrades instead of the Bounty Hunter.

For those that may play Flames of War, I would be treating the Bounty Hunter ship like a Tiger tank. Mostly a distraction that can do SOME damage, but it's mainly there so you can maneuver your striking units into position and get the target you want while he's worried about the "big guy". That doesn't always work on experienced players, but the Bounty Hunter is enough of a threat not to be ighnored.

I prefer a finesse style of play, but don't have much experience with the game. Curious if this seems even semi competitive before I drop some more clams on another Advanced.

Keeping in mind that my games tend to run 20-50 points more than the standard game I have used Vader and Steele together, they were fairly effective skirmishers from what I recall. I'd say that's a good sign for seeing them in epic play at least even if standard format still shuns them.

Curious if people think 2 TIEs on the board are better served than 1 medium sized ship in a 100pt list like above.

I won't submit to making a swarm. I think I'd have a good chance against a Swarm with Vader+Stele and the Hunter.

I'm going to force the Advanced into acceptance.

I'm not sure Vader+Marek will be enough. I'd guess you'd have to figure out a way to bring in an unnamed pilot to meet this goal. If you have success with this list, it would get you about halfway there, though.

I think the bounty hunter list is a bit better and interesting mirrors a Falcon and two Xwings in some ways.

Do you guys pronounce his last name like "STEEL" or "Stelleh"

Steel.

Something like Meh-wreck Steel.

Or May-wreck

I like to pronounce him like it was a german name ... sounds better ;)

If you can get the opponent to focus on the bounty hunter it's great as long as your other ships can even the numbers game without losing your BH. I play my "Baron's Focus" list with Super Fel + BH and recon + Nightbeast + backstabber (or DC). They can usually cut into thier numbers well enough while the BH is causing havoc. And if they choose to chase Fel around instead the BH has it's time to shine.
