Gungan Prison - Custom FFA Scenario

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

So I've been working on a custom ruleset for a Free-for-all scenario. Basically when you have 3 players and don't want to leave anyone out... though this scenario should work equally well with 4 or 5 players too.

To summarize, everyone gets 35 points. (Probably just 1 ship) - so the game-play SHOULD go fast. It's not JUST a deathmatch either because there are these objectives - Gungan Soul Prisons - players need to destroy them. If a player kills a GSP, they get reinforcements... (Essentially another 35 points worth of squad, but it could be more - see the rules). Also when a player gets eliminated, they get to take over a GSP - and SHOOT at any player of their choice with 4 attack dice!

The strategy comes in stopping your opponents from getting the killing shot on the prisons - as well as trying not to get killed by the person who you JUST killed!

Here are the rules: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EbH7OK5kW56k-G_t74H330ipbrdpLx1i4rR9IjxzhXM/edit

I plan on playtesting this format within the next 2 weeks. I'm nearly done with the models for the GSPs (They are simply made of Styrofoam for now - I couldn't find plasticard anywhere but for now foam will do).

If you would, read over the rules and let me know if you see any glaring problems or if you have any questions that I should address! And if you have 3+ people and want to playtest it let me know how it goes! Thanks!

Why are the GSPs limited to only range 3? And are those considered primary weapons or secondary for range modifiers?

Well it says " The GSP may only attack ships within range 3, as per normal rules, and range bonuses DO apply . " so I figured it was self explanatory but I can see how this could be confusing.

Basically they have the same firing arc as the Millenium Falcon (360) and can attack range 1, 2, or 3. It counts as a primary weapon attack. I'll try to reword it so it is less confusing. Thanks!

Great scenario, will definitely give it a run

Ran this scenario tonight and it was pretty successful. Took about 90 minutes, which I think is pretty good for 5 people. I scaled the hull on the GSP's down to 7 before the match started, but I think 10 would have been better because they died quickly.

I might consider adding a rule that when a GSP is destroyed it emits a shockwave dealing damage to all ships within range 3. Toward the end it slowed down, so I want a way to speed it up at the end. But still it went well. working on a Batrep video atm.

So let me get this straight. You want me to destroy these Gungan Soul Prisons, thus releasing their gibbering, eternal essences back into the material realm?

The only way to win is not to play.

I'd be curious to hear more about these Gungans, how it is that they have souls, and why they are being so justly tormented.

No no, the prisons keep the souls safe and secure. By destroying them, you destroy their last remnants.

Here is a video of our initial run of this scenario:

Great stuff, thanks for sharing!

added a new rule to the rules. It is called GSP Explosion. Basically, when someone blows up one of the GSPs, it explodes sending gungan bones in all directions, and players have to roll evade dice vs an "attack" from the objective. It is treated as a 3 dice attack, but it DOES get range modifiers and automatically has focus dice changing to hits.

It should add a little chaos to the game.
