Medicine check on installing cybernetic limb

By robmox, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

There's no information in the book that says if you need to do a medicine check when installing a cybernetic limb. I imagine it'd be Hard or Daunting to install, any ideas?

I'd assume putting it on somebody is just included in the cost. But assuming this arm is stolen or found randomly, or was repaired so and needs to be re-attached, I'd say it depends on the situation. For droids or for replacing a limb that was already cybernetic in the first place for living beings, I'd say it's probably a hard mechanics check. Otherwise... maybe daunting medicine for living beings replacing a limb that doesn't have the necessary connectors set up already.

Losing a limb on the crit chart is a Hard (3 die) injury to heal, so I would use that as a guide. Replacing a limb imo would be Hard with the correct facilities and equipment. In lesser settings the difficulty would either be upgraded or increased accordingly.

If it's with full medical support (staff, available technology, etc.) I'd say it probably doesn't require a check at all. But if you're replacing a previously-existing cybernetic limb in the field, it's probably at least Hard. I feel like the crit chart Medicine check is only for stopping the bleeding, keeping the patient from going into shock, etc.

The check on the crit chart is for curing the critical hit. Seems like replacing a lost limb is a reasonable part of the curing process.

The "Beyond The Rim" module introduces a Cybernetics skill (Intellect based). Its mostly a hard check to install cybernetics. In order to get the cybernetics skill though, you need at least one rank in medicine or mechanics.

I think the rulebook mostly assumes that players will have this procedure done at a hospital or clinic, where competent NPCs take care of the skill check. If one of your players wants to do it himself, I'd say a Cybernetics or Medicine check, with the Medicine one being slightly harder since it's less specialized. Also, I'd upgrade and/or pile on setback dice if the conditions are any less optimal than a sterile operating room.

I thought Beyone the Rim was just an adventure. What page is cybernetics on? Or, better yet what are the rules on it?

Its on page 96 in "beyond the Rim". The rules say what what I said in my previous post in this thread.
