Reporting stores selling kits

By Khyros, in X-Wing

So, I've seen a few game kits listed for sale on ebay, and really haven't though much about it. But today I stumbled across a what appears to be a store selling Ten Nunb cards (apparently 10+) and the Regional bye certificate. I know the boxes say that they say they're not for resale, and I really don't think someone should be able to buy their regional bye.

Does anyone know the proper way to report this store to FFG? If they're not going to run the tourney, then they shouldn't have applied.

They also have stuff from other FFG store champs for sale. Such as the Champion's play mat for SWLCG.

That's pretty terrible. I hope FFG cracks down on this. Gotta be pretty easy for them to narrow down tourney bids if they can't.

I think you just would email FFG, there should be a link on this site somewhere. List the name of the store and what they're doing.

I don't think FFG can do much about what the store is doing, but they could deny the bye to who ever bought it... Assuming of course they know who it is.

Selling a regional by certificate? That's really important for FFG to know. I'm not sure the best way to go about it, but I would get all the information you can and use the Customer Service > Contact FFG link at the top of this page. Fill out the form as best you figure it. Hopefully they check those messages. I know they do for damaged/missing product reports (they are really good about that part at least).

K, I went ahead and did what Sable suggested. I went through their listed items, and it seems that they're selling off their certificates for multiple games (SWLCG and X wing are currently listed) along with some of the other prizes. Going through their history though, they've been selling full kits for all of the FFG games for awhile now.

I've seen some of the earlier kits listed as one off things where a store went bankrupt and sold off all its inventory and whatnot, but it's not right to buy kits that specifically say no resale with the intent of selling them. I guess all FFG can really do is stop sending that store kits in the future, but that might not even make business sense. *shrug. Oh well, nothing more I can do.

That's the problem, there isn't much I can think of that FFG is likely to do to that store. They could stop selling kits... but that could be a bad idea, depending on the size of the store and how much other stuff they buy.

My LGS is pretty small, so if they stopped buying any FFG products, it wouldn't hurt FFG a ton I'd guess, but a large store might be a different story.

The real issue here IMO is that you have people buying a bye, and that is a big issue. FFG can quite easily deny them the bye round. But only if they know who the person is and where they got the cert from.

True, but I don't know how they could really link the two together as there doesn't appear to be a serial number or something identifying the cert as belonging to that store. And I doubt that the LGS have to report to FFG who their champ was.

Looks like a listing on ebay for a store championship certificate from gamersdenstore in Corpus Christi, Tx. Frustrating, but I suppose inevitable. IF this is legit, I find it somewhat amusing that the store would use their own ebay ID to sell it.

Store is Gamers Den in Corpus Christi TX. Guess those players don't get a Store Champ.

They are selling both the X-Wing and the SW LCG kits

I intentionally didn't want to draw attention to the specific store or ebay listings, as I'm sure there are those out there that will jump on it and buy it now that they know it exists. But oh well. Also, I think it's funny that they're asking more for the play mat than the 1st round bye. Though I suppose if you're good enough to make use of the 1st round bye, you should be able to win your own mat... whereas everyone wants the mat, even if they're not good enough to earn it.

Ummm, you posted this. So you intentionally drew attention to this. Just saying.

Yeah, but I didn't name any stores or list any listings. And while I knew people were going to go to Ebay and check it out themselves, I still would have preferred the store stay anonymous. As a community we shouldn't be supporting this store on ebay. And the local play group should bring this up with their store because they're the one.

That's a reason I posted the store.

Maybe at the very least, the store (and subsequent certificate from said store) can be flagged so whoever shows up to regionals representing store X can be greeted by the tournament officials with a, "So sorry, but that cert isn't valid. Run along now"

I'm not against stores selling the cards/mats/tokens/etc really. Even if they didn't it is very likely that individuals who won the cards etc would (and do), and that should be allowed in my opinion. It is their stuff after all.

But selling the Byes? yea.... probably a bit over the top given how it impacts later tournaments. That smacks of "pay to win" situations, which most people will generally be against.

Honestly, I'm surprised that FFG doesn't police this more. I have heard about several situations that are ethically questionable. Would be nice to see them crack down on the stores a bit, at least for the Store Champs/Regional kits, if not all of them.

I hope FFG blacklists that store.

I agree that the selling of the alt pilots and tokens isn't nearly as bad as selling a spot in a tournament for the reasons you stated.

However, i would argue that if the store is buying kits solely for the purpose of selling off the components contained within, that's just as bad in my eyes...especially since only stores can obtain those kits from FFG.

If those components were available to Joe Consumer, then i would argue that all bets are off in that regard.

Just my opinion...

I'm fine with selling off parts of old kits, or extras. I've run a few tourneys, and I've probably now stock piled like 20+ Gold squadron pilots. Not that I plan on selling them (instead I'm hanging on to them along with my duplicate Wedge and a few extra BSP that I've won to one day run an adhoc tourney where people get cards that they didn't need / didn't play when they were available) but I can understand that. Heck I can even understand saying "oh, we ordered 5 Season 2 kits, and only ran 2 tourneys, and now we don't have a local player base... lets sell them off on ebay."

But I can't see selling the actual prizes from the limited edition store champ kit. I've yet to see them put up the unique Col. Jendon or the range rulers, but they did put up the playmat from the SWLCG. This is preventing someone from the opportunity to win it. Same with the current season kit... why did you order them if you were just going to sell them?

*shrug... this is coming from a guy who has watched multiple acrylic TL listings with the intention of bidding on them, but can never seem to pull the trigger because I'll know that I didn't earn them and would feel like I'm misrepresenting myself by using them.

Yeah, stuff from within the kits (tokens, cards, whatever)...don't care. Tournament slots...big time issue.

Stuff from previous seasons i personally wouldn't have a problem with, simply for the fact that i have no ability to go back in time, and try to earn them. Unless they hold "legacy" tournaments where you use what was available at the time, and earn prizes from same time.

FYI - FFG responded to me, saying thank you for alerting them... and now all of their listings (which I believe were all FFG gaming kit related) are removed from Ebay. Score one for FFG!

Nice.

I rarely use the word "hate", but in this case, I truly hate stores that abuse their priviledge to carry and endorse a gaming product.

Greed son. It'll get ya.

I've reported a game store here in Denmark for the exact same thing and FFG got back in touch with me within 5 days. The "product" can now no longer be found on the shops webpage.

Score!!! :D

The same store actualy sold of the Wave-2 prizes frlm the Kessel Run event back in 2012 instead of hosting a tournament

I didn't buy from this store. I will not deny the fact that I buy a lot of my game night stuff on line. Reason being I run the game night at MLGS and I cannot win the stuff because of it.
