Thoughts on this Imp list?

By drylndsurf, in X-Wing

I've had some success with this list in casual games and I'm thinking of running it in a tourney later this week.

Krassis Trelix (36)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Soontir Fel (27)
Push the Limit (3)
Stealth Device (3)
Academy Pilot (12)
Academy Pilot (12)
Total: 100
My plan would be to set up Krassis and the Academy Pilots together opposite the main enemy force and set Soontir off to the other side. Then I would push the main force up using the TIEs as blockers and keep Krassis at range 2-3 to deliver blows with the HLC.
In the meantime I would hope to run Soontir up the other side as fast as possible with 5 straights and boosts to circle in behind the main group, or to act as bait to lure my opponent to split his forces.
Any thoughts on the list or the strategy? I know that splitting forces isn't usually the best tactic, but it's worked for me before. Perhaps I've just been lucky.
I appreciate your wise council.

The only problem I foresee with your strategy is that you can't know where their main force is when you place your Academy TIEs. If you have initiative, you will have to place them first. If you place them in the center, you are facing disadvantageous turns after the initial kerfluffle, especially if your enemy sets up on either side. However, if you set them up on one side, you risk not being able to flank with Fel, as they may well be setup across from him and away from your Academies.

I do agree that Krassis should accompany your TIE Fighters.

One possible way to deal with it is to setup the bulk of your force on one side and Fel on the other. If they setup across from Fel, immediately turn in while your main force arcs wide to meet them in the middle. Otherwise Fel is in perfect place to flank. Still, it's a risk.

Yup, if they set up across from Fel, you should not take him forward as you could easily fall prey to his main force attacking your flank first before your main force joins the fray. Net result - a dead fel, that potentially got a few hits in. Not worth the cost. Now you're down to 65% strength, and he can still take out probably 2 TIEs before they attack, leaving you with a TIE and FS by the end of the 3rd round, and he could very easily still be at full strength (though the one would be on life support).

Great thought! That makes a lot of sense to me. Thanks.

How about using the Academy Pilots as blockers for Krassis? Is this a good way to keep enemy ships at range for the HLC or just a good way to get my TIE wasted quickly?

Would it be better to keep them back for support fire?
