Participating in Battle ?

By Rogue 4, in Star Wars: The Card Game - Rules Questions

Ok, I think my buddy is right, i just want to ask anyways. So if an egagement between two units (one defender, one attacker) is taking place, and I have one of the following units that can particpate in the back, can I participate in the attack if my one attacker is gone?

During the engagement I know this is the process:

player winning edge strikes first,

actions,

player not winning edge, strikes

actions,

continue if any ready units available.

So if there are no units ready to attack, can the units participate or not? His arguement was that there are no more attackers in the engagement so the engagement is over, I said that because I have a ready participating unit that can strike one of the above should get to strike.

So what gives, who is right? Thanks

This interaction is both more complicated and more straight forward that it would seem. The answer comes from a very careful (and strict) reading of the flow chart. After the edge battle, this is what happens:

1. Action Window

2. Whoever won edge can strike. If this is you, you can strike with one of those units now

3. Action Window

4. Whoever lost edge can strike. Once again, this is a place you could choose to use one of those units if you lost the edge

5. Action Window

6. Check if there are any ready units participating in the battle, if there are, return to step 1, if not, proceed to reward unopposed.

Having units that can strike when not participating on the sidelines is not enough to keep the final step from proceeding to "reward unopposed." The net result is that you'll be able to strike with one of them if all of your units die before striking (Heat of Battle or some such thing), but not both of them. If you do have participating units, make sure you use your non-participating strikes before your last participating unit strikes (or is killed/tactics-ed) as you could lose the chance to strike with them.

It also depends on whether there are ready units on the other side. As long as there at least one ready unit on either side, the game will go back to step 1.

That's a good point that I didn't include in my last sentence. As long as either player has a ready unit in what I numbered as Step 6, then you'll go back to the beginning and have another chance to strike.
