New Rogue trader campain

By Sneshy, in Rogue Trader Gamemasters

He is not a titel character he is a mere pawn to the fleet for the Rogue Trader. I was thinking he is simply an ELdar taken from his craftworld by the imperium to become a test Eldar-Navis, as on of there successful subjects aboard The "Enigmatum" an extension of the Ordeo Xenos for the Koronus sector.

He would be a fully indoctrinated Eldar with slight hints of Eldar impulse left in his personality. He would be deathly afraid of chaos and would have an inexplicable fear of the Greyknights and the inquisition.

Marche will just be a NPC that the GM controls. The story would be open to the player but I would make random things happen in the process as a GM.

BTW ive posted my first painted model on Dakka Dakka.

I want to play a half tau, half c'tan with the mission of fixing the golden throne and become super secret pony best friends with the emperor.

Are you dead set on making the Rogue Trader half eldar? I like many of the other people on this forum feel that it conflicts with my interpretation of the grimdark 40K universe, particularly the seemingly idyllic childhood. However I have a suggestion you may like as an alternative.

Marche Stardust grows up a regular human, indoctrinated into the Imperial cult as standard having the standard childhood that barely raises itself above the level of horrific beyond belief. He hates any and all xenos as is right and good for Imperial citizens in fact he might hate them a little more than your average Imperial citizen and that is saying something. For whatever reason he raises through the human command structure eventually being noticed and getting tagged for ascension to Rogue Trader.

It turns out that Marche excels in this new role. His burning hatred for the xenos leads him to claim back territory long thought lost to mankind and in so doing he realizes that not everyone has the same level of righteous hatred for the xenos.

He uncovers rumours of a corrupt planetary governor that has been going out of his way to acquire eldar technology. Knowing that such an accusation could have terrible repercussions on the loyal and blessedly ignorant citizens the governor rules Marche wants to be sure. He seeks out an eldar vessel and with himself at the lead and a hand-picked boarding party he boards the vessel and slaughters the crew.

During the eldar purge a bolter round explodes in the wraithbone that Marche is taking cover behind shattering the wraithbone and sending a tiny fragment into Marche's scalp. The injury is so minor that it isn't worth seeking medical attention but unbeknownst to Marche part of the wraithbone remains in the wound as it heals.

The rest of the endeavour goes perfectly. The eldar technology is looted from the ship and through seedy channels Marche sells it to the corrupt governor and once the hidden tracking device confirms it is in the governor's possession he alerts the inquisition and moves on.

Unfortunately for Marche wraithbone has the ability to slowly repair itself and grow, and given that it is essentially crystallized warp energy travelling through the warp speeds up the process. At first this goes unnoticed but eventually 'roots' from the wraithbone 'seed' work their way through his skull and touch his brain. When this happens fragments of the eldar's souls held in the ship's infinity circuit begin to merge with Marche's being. He starts to remember a new childhood, one that wasn't aggressively awful. New skills (and careers) float unbidden into his mind and for the first time in his life he begins to doubt the Imperial way.

As the fragment grows in his mind it brings him considerable pain but also it gives him a great deal of guilt as the plight of the eldar and the slaughter of their people (sometimes at Marche's own hands) becomes more vivid in his memory. The Eldar suddenly become friendly towards Marche, they can detect the wraithbone in him and sense what it is doing to him. Farseers predict that his path can now be shaped and he may do some good for the eldar race... Also the eldar are secretly pleased with the agony Marche is now in and the guilt the memories give him. They view it as a fitting reward for his past.

Now Marche must decide what he wants to do. He could potentially have the fragment removed as it grows like a tumour into his brain, the eldar don't want this and they help him access his newfound potential in order to convince him not to. Does Marche allow himself to forget all he has learned, to purge the wondrous memories and skills from his mind or does he fight the pain and guilt to follow this new path? Does he indoctrinate a small portion of his crew into what is actually happening and lead them on this heretical adventure? If so he could probably use the help of a human who knows something about eldar technology... Well there was that governor he turned into the inquisition, perhaps it isn't too late to call in a few favours and have him added to the crew.

How many of you guys can't read???

MY ROGUE TRADER WILL BE A HUMAN FEMALE!!!

Your story was well written but It still nothing of what I was talking about ok for those who can put the puzzle together, here is the story I came up with thus far.

The Enigmatum, a fleet of 10 ships part of the Ordeo Xenos branch in the Inquisition, is a division of the inquisition that partakes in safe xeno tests and trades. Valerienne Solar Is the Rogue Trader and commander of this fleet, she reports to a inquisitor (haven't made that character yet) The go about the unexplored worlds of the Koronus sector to make new technologies to help the Imperium against the forces of chaos. There you will find a Indoctrinated Eldar who is a navidator for the webway and the warp (He would attract more deamon incursions without his ghost helm), a DJ techmarine as the astropath, and others that will be played by people. The main point of the story? to discover new things for the Imperium.

A DJ Techmarine? Like, he spins records with his servo-arm? Bad ass... :P

...as the astropath? Wut? Is he a DJ TechLibrarianMarine?

A DJ Techmarine? Like, he spins records with his servo-arm? Bad ass... :P

They're deployed wherever Noise Marines are encountered in order to spin the phat beatz of Holy Terra. Their dubstep remix of the Emperor's Prayer has to be heard to be believed. Sadly the Metal Marines rock so hard that they're under suspicion of having fallen victim to Chaos itself.

I actually cannot think of a single lore reason why a Space Marine couldn't become an Astropath. It would almost certainly be viewed as a waste of the Space Marine selection process since presumably if you went through soul-binding first you wouldn't survive Space Marine trials, and they're not that needed since the Grey Knights already exist, but I can see some High Lord of Terra thinking at one point this might be a good idea and trying it.

And then deleting all records of it from history when it inevitably went wrong.

A DJ Techmarine? Like, he spins records with his servo-arm? Bad ass... :P

So much awesome.

An SM Astropath would be the most badass space telephone ever! Like one of those old crappy Nokia phones that you can wash, drop, kick into the swimming pool etc... and they still work. I Imagine it would be like that.

Also, Someone's gona get served!

Lol I assembled a Techmarine with a old Termy suit (small ones) then I deck him out in servo arms and such, He ended up looking like a dj so I thought "THAT WOULD BE AWESOME" Yea he can rip you apart after his mental noise ruins your inners.

Despite the having some of the Metal Marines falling to chaos and becoming Noise marines they are considered to be an acceptable risk due to Ordo Xenos requiring specialist troops to combat the Goff Rockers.

The Tyranids have also evolved entire broods of creatures that have their own living instruments. The dreaded "Organ-grinder-Cacofonix" bioform is growing more and more common threat to the Imperium.

Meanwhile, the Eldar Banshees are still upset that none of the uncivilized species appreciate their beautiful singing voice.

And the Necron just shout at the darn kids and tell them to stop making all that racket.

Dang those kids and their infernal loud noises that pass as music these days. 60 million years ago they had REAL music... *Grumble grumble grumble*

Oh an actual DJ... I just assumed you meant Death Jester Techmarine. Because with the rest of what you are talking about that would fit right in.

Well that is the deal with the Eldar they help them build there population and survive, and the Eldar will have a back up fleet to hand over to help and function the only hybrid webway fighter jet. it is not even a frigate and it is considered to be the fastest jet known to any codex, no matter how forbidden this lore vault is. The Eldar colonization is going to lead to the first mission a Slaanesh incursion.

For the tech marine he is not really a DJ hes more like a secretary since he has computers and vox and plugs...(Disckjockeymarine is more like a nick name)

I want to play a half tau, half c'tan with the mission of fixing the golden throne and become super secret pony best friends with the emperor.

Ok now you can try and make stats on a character sheet if you want but I dont think you'll be aboard my fleet. You got bigger problems like making sure you lucious hair stays flowing B)

I don't have the time to scan this but if you where serious but in that case you can do what you want the Ordeo Xenos can't control a Power level over 9000!!! you will hafto be a encounter but my Rogue Trader and my Tau ambassador would not be able to comprehend what's going on...

I just read and caught up on this thread from the beginning. So this campaign is going forward? I just want to recap and make sure I understand the premise. Forgive me if I mixed it up, I didn't sleep much and there was a lot of ground to cover.

Rogue Trader is a human female that used to be a part of the Adeptus Custodes but left her service to the God Emperor to go out and bring her personal brand of xenos hate to the unknown reaches of the galaxy.

Her love interest is a naval Commissar turned inquisitor half eldar hybrid navigator?

Then there is a panoply of other unique individuals making up bridge crew...

Here is a list of some interesting characters that could be cool to see then on the bridge crew

  • Eldar Farseer soulstone stuck in prototype wraithlord specifically designed to channel warp lighting a semi-sentient blade fashioned from a combination of c'tan shards and necrodermis
  • Dark Age of Technology Golden-Man who has been recently liberated from the vaults of a Necron Collector Tomb - He is shepherding a terrible secret about Terra that has been hidden since just before the creation/birth of the Emperor of Mankind
  • A hulking giant of a man with no memory of his past, he is plagued with nightmares every night about a message he failed to deliver on time and the deaths of his brothers. He doesn't know how old he is, but he DOES know he FEELS very old!
  • A failed Grey Knights aspirant who was rejected because his body was too strong to accept the geneseed he was implanted with. He then joined and rose through the ranks of the Adeptus Custodes until he was considered "THE LAW" for the entirety of subsector pacificus..
  • A halfbreed human/tau/genestealer cultist/mechanicum techpriest who used his Tau Genetic memory and his access to the infinite knowledge of the countless worlds devoured by the hive mind to recreate and test a second version of the golden throne. However, the secrets were stolen from him and he was exiled because the Fabricator General wanted to claim this secret for himself, but can't because he doesn't know the access codes to activate it..
  • A strange child possessed by a daemon of Hope and justice, one a small but growing number of daemonic lords that have coalesced from the positive emotions of humanity. He claims there is a device that will bring balance to the warp, and that the warp is as it is now is because the Lords of Order lost their war against the Lords of Chaos a million years ago. But that the time of Balance is at hand..
  • A mad prophet who claims to have made a pilgrimage into the heart of the Eye of Terror and who knows how it can be undone.
  • I'm spent...screw it...Goku...

HOPE THIS HELPS!!! Looking forward to seeing how this goes!

........

You don't like my awesome ideas Nameless?

It seems like the OP is more interested in telling the story of his own creations with support from others than acting as a GM to run a game for others enjoyment...

I understand that you might not like aspects of the game as portrayed and you have carte blanche to modify it as you see fit - as much as people were jarred by your radical alterations to the mechanics and setting that isn't even the issue here. But what gets me is that you want to have your own character(s) in a game you are running... that's a cardinal sin of GMing!

You're job as GM is to act as a rules arbiter to make sure everyone is using the same mechanics and to move the game along when it comes to a standstill or goes too far off the rails. Whether you do this from pre-written adventures or make up your own content doesn't really matter, but in a game like this each character (that is the ones made with XP like players do) should be controlled by a player and the GM should only be controlling NPCs. In turn these NPCs should not be the centre of the storyline, they should be the supporting character to the tale of the player characters.

Look, Sneshy....I'm late to this discussion, and I doubt you'll listen to me because you don't seem to really be listening to anyone, but this is an important concept to grasp, one it took me a while to get hold of as a GM as well.

AS GM YOU ARE NOT TELLING A STORY.

The GM's job is NEVER to tell a story. Stories, by their very nature, if they are to be enjoyable have to have structure, clearly defined and controlled characters and arcs. RPGs, by the very nature of the players involved, can never be fully controlled by the GM AND maintain enjoyability.

The GM's job is to make a world, a background, to fill in the blanks. It's the PLAYERS' job (especially in a broad game like Rogue Trader that is effectively sandbox) to drive the narrative. Think of it this way - The GM is less the movie's screenwriter and more its cinematographer, director or set designer. You set the tone, you describe the area - hell, to a certain extent you control the cast. But in the end it's the Players (as the actors/scriptwriters) who determine what happens. You just guide it into place.

I hope this helps you understand why you've received a lot of negative feedback on your plans. I have no doubt that while this would make an intriguing story, it wouldn't make an enjoyable game, or an enjoyable video of a game.

I remember my first beer.

It was warm. Yuck.

GM's often don't realise one thing: if you want your players to behave in any way - you can. You are the game MASTER. You don't need to have a PC to be one.

I have another problem. I've got 3 players - RT, Seneschal and Navigator. I gave them "static" Astropath and Explorator, because they were involved in the plot. Unfortunately they were overusing them. Sometimes they expected that I'll make one of them (or both) my personal Player (GM?) Characters. So I had my Explorator die to a heart attack. I hope they understood...

Yup - its just as important a decision as to what classes each player will take in an RPG as it is important how they act in game. Didn't take a Navigator in a Rogue Trader game? Well that NPC Navigator isn't very good so you'll suffer for it during warp travel. Didn't take an Explorator? Well the team of tech-priests in the engineering section might be convinced to send a representative with you on away missions, but they'll be very slower on the Tech-Use tests and less likely to tolerate tech-heresy.

Listen guys and Gals you are obviously mislead by the posters on my topic.

There is no set story just a crew and a basic direction. Any player can stray off from the story I will gladly indulge to produce more story. That is why I am an artist after all, to produce original ideas.

Second, stop assuming so much guys you will only make yourselves look like overactive fan boys.

Third the characters had a bit of a shift. The main Rogue Trader is rich girl from a Terra dynasty. She is now mature enough to take a fleet into the unknown.

The Eldar is of pure blood now. He is a prince but he does not know that because the grey knights indoctrinated him from his family in order to test Eldar in human lifestyles.

The fleet is a testing ground for all possibilities as to train Imperial knowledge to all possibilities. The total is guarded by an Inquisitor and his retenue to make sure that things don't get out of hand.

I will gladly accept character ideas but you should also consider playing with me so that I can get a practice on the rules.

Finally To play with me is to be patient and understanding. I am a nooblite GM and to start off I will create and merge "house rules" to fill in the pot holes the books leave behind. Meaning I will play as the NPC's and you can create any alien or human you want. It will be up to my fleet to incorporate you into there "test group".

I also have multiple pages of info and lore written down so that things are easier and more "concrete"
