Frozen Reaches - clarification requested

By Cavgunner, in Rogue Trader Gamemasters

I'm preparing to run the Frozen Reaches for my group in the foreseeable future. I noticed that on page 42, there is an Invasion Timeline (table 2-6). Neat. What does *not* seem absolutely clear is on what days, exactly, the GM should resolve each week's attacks. The book indicates that there should be a total of 3 attack phases (once per week over 3 weeks) resolved over the period of the invasion. And yet despite the inclusion of table 2-6, nowhere is it stated on which days, exactly, the attack phases are to be resolved.

To make matters even more confusing, near the end of page 30 it is stated that the invasion takes place in 3 5-day "intervals," despite the word "week" being used everywhere else.

Ok... so is each invasion phase actually a week of 7 days, or an "interval" of 5 days? Why doesn't the table on page 42 explicitly state, "Resolve Combat For Week/Interval X On This Day?" Either way, I just need to know on what day each of the 3 attack resolution phases are supposed to take place.

Also, Reinforcements Arrive (p. 44) is supposed to take place on Day 7, which may imply Week 1, Week 2, or the 2nd 5-day Interval. Heck if I know. And yet on page 45 it is stated that the Adamant will reinforce the defenses in Week 3. What??? I can't figure that one out.

Can somebody please help me untangle these timeline issues?

Personally, I don't think they can be untangled, merely 'fixed' via GM fiat.

When I went through it I decided on 1 week long intervals, with the ground attack happening at the very end of the 7 day stretch. That way, the Orks would have to fight through orbital defenses, land, then approach the city walls, which felt about right for a 7 day stretch.

The thing to watch though is that this 7 day stretch is right in the middle of the skirmish. To be that quick, the Orks will have to be dropping down through the system for a few weeks before they engage the Damaris defenses.

Also, depending on how much your Explorers like the combat, there should at least be a bit of mop up (even if its a few generic rolls to see how things go) to clean up the system after the Orks' combat power is spent in the 3 week long drops. I think the three weeks works out fairly well as a focused attack by a powerful fleet trying to take the planet, but once it's cracked, the Orks have to give up due to loss of morale.
