Pressure curtain

By Yepesnopes, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I have to confess that I have no idea what a pressure curtain is (it makes for a funny thing if I translate it to my mother language). I encounter this term by first time while I was reading through Trouble brewing.

The ship has landed in one of the caves, and Bandin

has set up a small pressure curtain on the cave's entrance,

so he can leave it and enter it easily. Unfortunately

for him, his laziness means his ship is somewhat

exposed. Power cables run out of the cargo bay

to the cavern's pressure curtain generator and a set

of arc-lights, meaning he can't secure the ship without

severing them (and possibly damaging the ship).

So I imagine is something that has to be powered up, like an energy field?

Anyone can tell me what it is?

Cheers,

Yepes

Yes, I think it is an energy field that allows for a mini atmosphere in that part of the cavern—so some scenes can be role played outside the ships. Think of the energy fields the ships passed through when they landed in the Death Star.

These are basically magcon fields. They hold the atmosphere in place so it doesn't get vented into space.

Here's a link for your perusal: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Magnetic_field

Its also useful when taking a pressure shower.

Thanks guys!

@Ghostofman: :lol:

" electromagnetic field that was generated in order to contain atmosphere or other gaseous substances within a certain space."

It does not seem to have any physical meaning (not that I care though). The only way it could work is if the pressure curtain ionises the gas when it gets close to it, but this will harm any biological and electronic system trying to cross the curtain.
