Epic Comebacks

By markcsoul, in X-Wing

So I started a thread awhile back about a epic fail game I had and let others share as well. Now after a game today it's time to do the opposite and talk about epic comebacks.

I played two games today at my local game store against the same opponent, we did the same squads both times and I won both games.

Both games ended pretty close, but the second game is where I had the epic comeback.

The low point of the game came when I was finally down to my last ship, Krass with HLC and recon. She had a couple shields knocked down at that point I think, maybe all her shields. My opponent still had 3 of his 4 ships left. Two blue bwings with FCS, one full health and one with a couple shields gone. Also still had a red xwing with shields gone.

I somehow proceeded to take down all 3 of his remaining ships, and still had 2 hull left when it was all said and done. Would have been 3 hull but I went through an asteroid a couple turns before the end of the game.

While I did have some of my best flying ever, some good luck, and key attacks, the biggest factor was my recon specialist. The two focus saved me from a lot of his hits, especially since I was trying to stay at range 3 if possible so I'd get 3 defensive dice.

So what are your epic comebacks?

Congrats on pulling victory out of the jaws of defeat!

I had a similar game where it was a 4 player, 2 v 2 game, and we had 200 points vs 200 points. I flew a Bounty hunter and some interceptors and my teammate had Krassis and some tie fighters and we were against 4 Y wings and 2 YT-1300. The tie fighters and interceptors were killed off pretty quick and we were working on the y wings and got them down to one left and just the 2 YT-1300's left. My partner and I got locked up because he forgot that I moved before him and he wasn't picking a maneuver that would clear for 4 turns in a row. It didn't help that a YT was moved up to bump into him and prevent me from clearing, but I could not take a large move as I was closest to the edge. He finally picked a move that cleared everything and I was free to maneuver, but by this point it was me vs 2 YT and 1 Y wing. they asked me If I wanted to concede. I said no. I K turned and went after the damaged YT first, taking it out and then went after the 2nd, full health, YT with choosing evade for my actions. I took it out. I was down to 2 hull left and the Y-wing putting ions on me. I was hit and destroyed with the Y-wing down to 2 hull from full.

I didn't win but I came very close to it. And I showed my opponents what good piloting can do for a ship. You can be down, just don't ever consider yourself out until you are sure you are done.

My craziest comeback was against Han solo, Gunner, Marksmanship and two other ships - I think an X or A-wing and a y-wing with an ion cannon, I'm not quite sure, it's been awhile.

My entire imperial fleet - a bounty hunter, and a tie or two, were destroyed early on - I'd done a total of 2 shields to the falcon - this was by turn 3 or 4. My remaining ship was a PTL + Stealth Soontir Fel. I managed to head straight towards the falcon at range 1, and k-turned, staying at range 1, I managed to dodge the falcons shots and take it out - in exchange for loosing my stealth and going down to 1 hull. Fell then managed to take out the escort fighters, and clinch the game.

Bah, last night I almost had an epic comeback on Vassal, that turned into a comeback for my opponent. I had my first opponent choose to go for the Buzzsaw shuttle, and sadly I didn't anticipate it.

I had:

Howlrunner + Swarm Tactics

Academy Pilot x 4

Omicron Group Pilot + FCS + Gunner + Engine upgrade

Against:

Luke + R2D2 + Shield Upgrade + DTF(I think)

Wedge + Marksmanship

Biggs + Hull Upgrade

Lost the shuttle right away, but at least it put Biggs and Luke facing some bad positions. My Ties turned it around and took out Biggs in 2 rounds, losing only 1 Tie. I manage to block Wedge from a k turn and keep him out of the fight for 4 ish rounds, which really turned the game around for me. Going for Luke with 3 Ties I get him down to 1 hull, wedge down to 1 hull after Luke breaks free with some asteroids hampering the immediate chase. Luke R2D2s some shields, 3 ties left, slightly wounded, some Range 1/2 shots on Luke, and they all MISS. Last chance failed! It really turned into an epic comeback for my opponent! Luke's ability always shines vs ties! Haha.

Most epic-

Stealth + PTL Fel vs. chewie @ 3hp, Bwing @3 HP, Bwing @ 5Hp.

Chewie had finally chased down and finished off Nighbeast. Promptly was Vaped by Fel. Return shot by Bwing misses. Positioning round found Fel at range 3, through an asteroid, with a focus token (No PTL): no luck for the Bwing. Next turn Kturn! Might be one of the only times I've ever Kturn'd an interceptor. Bwings have no shot and I finish off the wounded one. Spend the next 2-3 turns flying evasively and my opponent gives up after I've whittled him down to 2hp. Epic.

Honorable mention:

Turr + stealth + PTL

Tie swarm

Vs.

4 xwings

Early in our game experience with interceptors... Might have been 1st or second game. His xwings couldn't miss. Pretty sure they were packing Torpedos of all things. Turr ended up at 2hp vs. 3 xwings, one at full. My opponent learned quickly that Turr with me flying him was going to be a long day. Killed the Xwing without shields and avoided fire for 2 turns setting up shots on he wounded x. He started settling for 1 shot vs me a round covering more angles and it was only a matter of time before the dice cooled down. Took out the most wounded of the original 3 and evaded to range 3 with asteroid cover but no tokens. He hits me for one crit. It's the stress token one and now that I'm double stressed its easy to finish me off. Pretty sure Turr was focused down first every time i took him for the next 2 months. Epic Almost comeback.
