I have my first squad using the phantoms: 2 25 point phantoms, Howlrunner, and 2 black squadron pilots with draw their fire. Fly the Phantoms up front, the BSP's behind to draw crits off them, and Howlrunner within range 1 of the miraculous 4-attack monsters
Alright, gonna put this right out into the open right now.
I think they look stupid, and I always have.
Gotta disagree with you Leo, I think they look quite agressive and dangerous. I quite like them, but then I love the Interceptors as well. They just look cool. It will be interesting to see how they play. I think the Z-95 is a nice little model but not sure why FFG did the E-Wing - that thing is fiercely ugly!
The reason for the doubleblind (can't see out of it) effect on Thrawn's Star Destroyer was due to the cloaking device being hibridium-based -- the TIE Phantom used stygian crystals as a part of its cloaking device, which didn't cause the doubleblind effect.
Hibridium cloaking devices were used in Rebellion/New Republic-era because the TIE Phantom project consumed the galaxies last remaining stygian crystal supply...
EDIT: Anyone know why the quote button didn't work for me?
Edited by shadowjesterOk, the stealth is an action, not an upgrade, you can see in the picture quite clearly that there is a action symbol that has never appeared before, Someone also posted a link to a preview that claimed one of the phantom's upgrades allowed it to gain an evade token when "cloaking" and "decloaking". If I had to guess I would say that cloaking is probably a massive defensive buff but you can't fire until you take an action to decloak. Which means it will be extremely powerful if it can get in behind something and unload but since it has the least survivable stat line yet it will have to be careful not to get caught in the open. Sounds fairly balanced to me.
That was the feeling I was getting from it, it will be a case of knowing when to take your shot. And because it's having to be careful it may get less shots than a lot of other ships. The Attack 4 might not make up for missing shots every other turn.

I am honestly, knowing that we haven't seen NEARLY everything that wave 4 has to offer, thinking 2 Phantoms with Saboteurs + 2 or 3 bombers with ordinance might be a viable list. PURE conjecture though.

And you have every right to have your opinion, just as I have mine. I do agree that the E-Wing isn't my favorite either, not by a long shot, but I'll still be using them.
Am I the only one who thinks that, regarding the TIE/Phantom, that it's 4 attack die would completely balanced by an inability to fire while cloaked? Having a great defense and a great attack is nice but, if one must be sacrificed to use the other, doesn't that moderate it out pretty well? Keep in mind that, while cloaked, you... can... still... see... the game piece... It's not like it's literally going to appear in your rear arc at range 1. It still has to get to you and you can likely predict somewhat when they will drop the cloak to fire. Juke out of the way when you think the attack is coming and worry not while it is cloaked since (theoretically) it couldn't fire. Assuming this is how it works, am I the only one who sees the Phantom being not that differing in power from the other ships all things considered? Still a good ship, just not the OMG 4 attack feast it's being made out to be.

No, I've been bringing that up too. In the Thrawn Trilogy, a ship couldn't see out of their cloak.
... not sure why FFG did the E-Wing - that thing is fiercely ugly!
At first I kind of agreed with you about this. But then as I realized what the ship represents in the game. It's shape seemed reasonable. All that space to put the sensors and droids and shields in. We basically now have three ships that kind of show the evolution of the X-Wing... It started growing on me after I saw it in that light.
So, if the cloak is just evade dice, b-wings with autoblasters and engine upgrades...
On the cloaking device I'm guessing that the Attack dice value and Agility switch. When you cloak you now are 2, 4 , 2, 2, and when you uncloak you return to 4, 2, 2, 2
Even so, if that is the case, makes the Phantom seem fairly reasonable then, yes?

That's.... actually not a bad thought. Hmmmm.....
The switching thing gets hosed by stealth devices... Then you just have a 3/4/2/2 ship. Or perhaps worse... Depending on how it would get Faq'd, 2/5/2/2 with sensor gamer/recon specialist/PTL...I'm guessing the round you take the action you can't be targeted and you can't shoot. I'm guessing the advanced version allows you to keep your token from round to round so you can better utilize your actions.
The roll 4 more evade dice thing is also unlikely. Too many dice and still a lot of potential to roll almost no evades- especially if its an action so you can't modify dice.
If the cloaking device works that way then using it with the Stygium Particle Accelerator gets you a free evade when you cloak/decloak. It makes it much safer to drop down to 2 defense if you also have an evade token.
