Where's the TIE/D Fighter?

By SpectreSix, in X-Wing

I believe every TIE model has been featured as a miniature so far, except for the TIE Avenger and the TIE Drone fighter. I wouldn't have brought it up except for the fact I saw the E-wing and then I saw a Droid Starfighter thread. (Awesome work on the droid starfighters, btw)

Now the TIE Drone Fighter was an automated Imperial fighter that was used by the Palpatine clone during the battle of Mon Calamari, which also featured the E-wing.

Now the TIE Drone fighter kicked the stuffing out of the T-65 X-wings that were used during the battle. So I was thinking 3 Attack dice, 3 Evasion,. 2 Hull. Even if they killed a few X-wings, the drones were still highly fragile. (Then again, what TIE isn't, yaknowwhatImean?)

So a super fragile TIE with more attack but less HP... would be odd to give it a points cost with those stats.

Also, their droid brains were notably terrible pilots that could easily be outsmarted, so how would you do Pilot Skill? How could you do other pilots for it?

I do like the look of that Sith star fighter.. it's sleek.

Pilot skill as normal, but they play certain colours of maneuver face up?

Let's pretend the TIE Hunter and TIE Oppressor never existed.

Hey, TIE Hunters are awesome! But I do agree the Oppressor is just silly.

I think I remember the TIE/D primary advantage being cheap, plentiful, and insanely maneuverable, being able to pull high-Gs that would otherwise smear a human pilot into red goo on the cockpit walls (I flew against them in the Battle of Mon Calamari in 10 ABY).

They were smaller than other TIEs and no indication of greater firepower. I would rather see 1 or 2 attack/3 evade/2 hull, with ship cost and movement dial to compensate.

This is the versions people have been trying out, apparently they are really fun and very different to play than TIE/Lns. I believe they use Tie Fighter Dials.

the common thread for most AI has been no focus, very little stress, either ignoring it, or having dials which have very little red.

I've proposed in another thread a TIE/d (note the 'd' not 'D') and came to the conclusion it should be 8pt PS0 with 4 hull; they were heavily armoured if you look at sources. However, what I hadn't worked out was how a human could play the A.I. Now I know, thanks to an earlier comment: drones play move dials face up. This would work!

Looking through that pic the hunter looks awesome. Would love to see some more ties.

tie driod should have stats like these

2/3/2/0 points cost 10 so u can field a swarm of 10 fighters

ps skill should be 1 and 3 only 2 pilot card needed in my opinion with the usual evade token in it but a focus aswell just to get more focus tokens in ure collection a stress token aswell even if they shouldnt get any stress at all. and some upgrade cards in the box.

ps 1 called Prototype A.I

ps 3 Advanced A.I

Tie droid and predator are my last 2 tie variants I hope to see. Distinctive and bring something to the game. Tie dial, tie stats, no focus, no stress, not bing effected by friendly pilots, 10pts.

Love the graph, thank you.

I thought the Tie Defender was used in the Imperial Remnant, it was used against the Yuuzhan Vong.

Ah nice its flown by a Cylon.......

I'd rather have the TIE that had the Pilot's disembodied brain in it . . . Can't remember what it was called right now.

These things should be cheap, hence my 8pt idea, and tough because they had extra armour, but have to be 'stupid', so PS0. I love the idea of placing their move dials face up first as a way to emulate the A.I. but the canon had only a single brain, so multiple PSs shouldn't be implemented IMHO.

Shouldn't ion tokens outright kill a droid?

That's the one! It could have a rear firing arc, System Upgrade Slot, and a Secondary Weapon Slot. It could also come with a new weapon: the EMP Gun. It could function like the Ion Cannon except when it hits it reduces all Weapon values by one for the next turn.

Come to think of it, they could make an Imperial Automation Pack with this and two TIE Droids . . . I would certainly buy two.
