Here's the thing - and I'm no expert on licensing agreements by any stretch of the imagination, but I suspect there's only two situations where FFG would no longer have the license to produce X-Wing stuff. Either FFG decided to give it up once it expired, because they no longer wanted to produce it, or LFL decided not to renegotiate it, and took it elsewhere.
I have trouble believing that as successful as the game has been (having trouble keeping your product in stock is unfortunate, but not the worst problem in the world to have), either party would have a compelling reason to walk away and call it a day. FFG has proven there's a big crossover market for this kind of game and is producing a steady stream of quality stuff, all of which has been selling like crazy.
If there's a market, and someone is supplying that market with quality stuff, and bringing in a ton of money, why would you pull up stakes and move somewhere else (or do away with the concept entirely)? Like I said; it's not like moving the comic books to Marvel, which is in house and simplifies things for them as a business model. It's more like LucasArts, who was a shell of what they used to be and was no longer capable of supplying the demand the way 3rd party companies could.
