The only thing I'm looking forward to is adding more options to my EotE campaign. I doubt I'll host a game in the AoR setting, or use the Duty mechanic, but since everything is compatible it's just more meat for the pot.
What are you most looking forward to with AoR?
Are any of these "existing methods" in EotE or AoR material?
I would love a lot of setting sourcebooks. As for how I personally handle major battles what I usually do when running them is assign the PCs an objective within the larger battle than have the results of the battle reflect their sucess. For example using capships at Endor I would assign the ship or ships the PCs are on to engage a Star Destroyer which is somehow more valuable to the battle than a standard one. If they take it out the battle goes great for the Rebels. If not the Rebels lose something vital they didn't lose in the EU battle.
I don't know if this sort of thing gets left out of a beta test, if it was in the beta, or what... but I would like to see a way that this system could mix minion groups and PC controlled ships; like the Falcon leading Gold Squadron in ROTJ.
I would do this narratively, to be honest. Maybe have the lead ship (the PCs) make a particular roll for the group but most of the results are narrative and like everything else merely influenced by the roll. I don't want to see it get too complex. Mass combat rules are rarely fun or a good simulation, hence keep it as narrative as possible.
Oh, I don't know. I think I did a pretty good job on Mass Combat and Cinematic Warfare rules. They are fairly streamlined, stay mostly narrative, and do the job. I am sure FFG could devise an equally good or better system.
If not, they can purchase mine if they want.
Fairly cheap. Maybe a writers credit or something and a small stipend. ![]()
Running a rebooted version of the original trilogy where Leia is accompanied by Ahsota, Cody and Rex on a mission to help Leia recruit Obi-Wan and then have them discover Ben has been protecting Anakin's son Luke so Ahsota ends up having to train him whilst Cody has problems when Han gets involved as Chewie remembers him from the Clone Wars...
Maybe have Starkiller show up as Vader's secret apprentice except he remains evil since he finds out Ahsota is his predecessor and learns about Luke just in time for Leia to join the fun!
Ahsota having angst problems what with teaching Anakin's kids and having Obi-Wan's force ghost lecturing her in his usual style! ![]()
Oh well I can dream can't I! ![]()
Still worth a shot at some stage!

Darn it was that bad?
Now I don't know whether I'm better off just forgetting... I really don't want to run into that cat! ![]()
That sounds more like a fan fic than a campaign...... I've read worse canon Star Wars stories than that too (the books that must not be named)
I'm looking forward to the second half of the AoR book with all the setting fluff and GM stuff the most.
More capital ships, vehicles, gear, and player options are always welcome but I really want to see what the equavalent of the "Laws and Society" chapter from EotE is going to be in AoR. FFG released a Table of Contents for the EotE book before it came out I hope they do the same with AoR.
I gotta say though there really isn't a need for mass combat rules. There is all sorts of creative ways to handle large fights. My favorite being using the one check combat resolution for all the NPCs involved in the "mass combat" but not directly involved with any of the PCs. I just make the one check for each group or squad in the backround, each turn, as minon groups (with a few exceptions to the minon grouping). It keeps combat moving suprisingly fast and keeps whats going on in the backround dynamic rather than pre-dertermined. I just ran a combat last night with a herd of banthas, a village's worth of sand people, 100 Jawas, a sandcrawler, and an angry mob of colonist/farmers with the PCs right in the middle. It took roughly 30 min give or take a few. It was epic to say the least.....

My soul actually died reading that.
Now I'm a soulless unliving zombie, and it's all your fault.
You know, I think we need a thread about what we don't wanna see in future FFG SW products... Mine would be a prequels/ Vong/Monobrow Boy/Green Rabbit mash-up...
Or this.

(screams) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Do.
Not.

Say Wha????? What language is that subtitle for?

To this I could only add... midichlorian points!
I don't actually hate the prequels, but... oy. ![]()
I saw an earlier post talking about more species, but less humans. I do feel it necessary to point out that as a stand alone system, it is quite likely that each game (EotE, AoR and FaD), will likely have human as a core species.
I just don't want anyone to be shocked when it happens, though I am sure someone will likely express dissatisfaction. It is in our nature, after all. As Humans. Even Corellian Humans. ![]()
I want to be part of a Specforce Infiltrator unit, which are the guys who do the shdy stuff for the rebels and/or a partisan rebel group on a planet like Naboo.
Edited by Lotr_NerdI'm not sure if we are going to see things like mass starship combat in the core rules. The beta and edge of the empire indicate that larger starship battles are more narrative tools and best handled in the abstract. On the other hand, specialisations like a Commodore lend themselves to large scale naval operations. It's possible that it may get some love in a splat book where such operations are specific to certain parts of the career, or where characters find themselves on the bridge of a corvette or frigate.
Im most looking forward to having it in my hands...
What I want to see - more color! While the mechanics are cool and everything, I really dig the back third of the book. The setting, the planets, the gear, the How To GM bits, that's what I really love reading.
I want to lick it.
No, seriously. New books taste fantastic. And Star Wars books taste like the 80s.

Frigates are my favorite warship type both in history and fiction so I love that idea. Pretty much every family member both current and past that I know was part of a navy served on one at some point. Plus I love age of sail novels and most age of sail novels or novel series focus on frigates though the main captain's usually move on to ships of the line and higher ranks later in a series.
Plus the first fleet I commanded in a tabletop wargame was a trio of frigates in Starfire, and the first ship I commanded in a tabletop RPG was a Nebulon-B. One of my biggest disappointments in Saga was that so few new CW and GCW era frigate classes were introduced. (I'm using the in universe technical definition of 200 to 400 meters so many ship classes named frigate aren't actually and a few smaller models named cruiser are actually frigate classes) Most of the actual frigates in the Clone Wars Campaign guide weren't foccused for front line combat, and for some reason many of the combat frigate classes WEG or the EU established as being used in The Clone Wars were left out of Saga. There were also a few cases where WOTC statted corvette, cruiser, or star destroyer classes from a source but left out the frigates, or statted one frigate but ignored any others I'm hopeful that won't happen again.
Any chance of some fighter carriers especially deck plans so we could have an iconic launching all fighters scene?
That would be nice too the thing is most carriers in Star Wars are hybrids of carriers and warships. In fact the bulk of warships larger than frigates, and even a small number of corvette and many frigate models carry at least some fighters.
The only pure carriers I know of in the Rebellion era, are the Escort Carriers, and a few models of Bulk Cruiser carrier conversions though some groups sometimes modify bulk freighters to serve as carriers according to the Essential Guide to Warfare.
Still there should be plenty of the hybrid carrier/warship to use for fighter focused scenes.
