What would the chance be for a Star Wars RPG in the old republic setting?

With the canon mashup, are we sure Old Republic is official official? I assume they are mostly wiping out the stuff after RotJ.

I would definitely buy a Sourcebook.

Good question. Since they're keeping the MMO, I assume it's more or less canon.

Once I get my hands on the F&D beta book, I'm starting my Legacy era game. That time period has awesome potential.

After F&D, who knows?
I wouldn't rule it out, but I wouldn't hold my breath either.

I have no idea what FFG's actual contract looks like, but I recall some talk at bio-ware about a tie in RPG, so they may very well hold those rights. Again, I have no clue.
Heck, at this point we really don't even know what is cannon any longer, and that can change things a good bit. So, that would have to be the first thing to iron out. They could very well say the Dark Horse stuff is "another universe", and retcon it all. I don't think they would, but if they want to re-write the same period, and have ideas to tie it into the future, I could very well see them doing just that.

Honestly, if the series is going to continue post, F&D, I could see an Imp series. I could also see a fleshing out of the movies (the first 3), in setting, prior to them going that far out.

Don't mean to be a naysayer... it's just how I see it panning out...

You are right Maelora, that there is no reason whatsoever that this couldn't be done with the existing book lines as is. (This is including Force & Destiny). In fact this is part of the reason the old republic holds no interest to me - the design/sound/plot of the games and setting are rehashings of the classic time period.

I'm not sure how you arrive at that conclusion. There's no over-arching Empire, and the Jedi are quite numerous. It makes for quite a different tone, and the possibilities are a lot more open. I prefer it over the "classic" period.

The sith come out of hiding to destroy the republic with capitol ships that look very reminiscent of star destroyers, have cheep disposable fighters that sound very much like tie fighters, and the big bad is horribly disfigured/wounded to need cybernetics/breathing apparatus. If you include the prequels, there is nothing different in the old republic to republic.

There was a time that lightsabers had to have backpacks to power, we don't get that.. instead we get games in that setting that lightsabers bounce off of everyone's body because 'cortosis everywhere' The writing in the kotor games, I personally, found predictable (and not in a fun way) and bland. The big shocker about Revan was, to me, very obvious and the other characters were grating. Hk47 was slightly funny for the first 5 minutes. The MMO was even worse. I am just not a fan of the time period, due the, as i see it, incredibly lazy an uninspired story and aesthetics. The whole time period was seemingly designed around the idea that we can do anything in the movie time period, so lets go back 15000 years, make everything look eerily the same so we can have everyone run around with lightsabers. Blech.

But.. as I said, people will line up to buy the book, as evidenced by people willing to shell out 80 bucks for the saga edition version. I have the Starships of the Galaxy for that system, and I really need to sell that so I can buy more Fantasy Flight stuff. :P

Hell, I have the entire line and I was just thinking the exact same thing...

To each their own, but one thing I like about the old republic setting is that lightsabers aren't the OMGWTFBBQ weapons that some people have forbidden fantasies about.

The fluff won't be in beta but I'm kinda hoping when F&D comes out we'll be talking about 5 minutes after ROTJ and what comes next......legacy is fun too though............with thousands of years between seems really anything goes in the system, an ambitious GM could spin up their own background entirely both without contradicting canon while simultaneously covering new ground.

Hmm. giving a skim through the book, most of it is fluff, which you could still make use of easily enough.

Making conversions of the mechanics probably wouldn't be overly difficult (As in, Make a Maldalorian Warrior specialization (maybe make it available to the soldier and hired gun) themed after the fluff and the prestige class, convert over the species in the book that haven't been covered yet, convert over the equipment, etc.) - You could do it with the stuff that is currently available if you dip into some fan resources, but I think I would suggest holding off on converting any of the force parts of the book until F&D comes out.

I'd absolutely love to see as much as possible covering The Old Republic, in particular the Cold War.

At this point, I'm more interested in the crunch that F&D will bring. I know enough about the Star Wars universe to fill in the fluff.
