I've just been having a read of Sablegryphon's "Flight School" posts. One thing I understand - and can sympathise with - is his certainty that a shuttle really, really needs an engine upgrade if you have any interest in using its guns*.
What popped into my head was the Anti-Pursuit lasers. If you're using engine upgrade, those things aren't any use, but you get two of them in each shuttle box.
Which got me wondering; a big pack of academy pilots** is a fairly common squad - using sheer numbers to get in the way and mess up enemy flight paths. Which - to me - seems that Anti-Pursuit lasers would be a nice cheap option to boost this up. Given that you can't roll evade dice against them, the APLs probably put out nearly as much damage potential as the TIE's primary weapons.

I've just never seen any lists fielding this. Has anyone tried this, and if so, how did it go?
*I guess if you're using it as a target lock dispenser or something similar you can get away without
