I only got to play with it once but being able to target lock with the bombers at initiative 9 and focus on the same turn is pretty nice with torpedoes.

Remember that Jonus does NOT benefit from his own ability.

Not sure where you are getting the idea that the Bombers can both lock at PS 9.

Not at the same time of course but Vader has squad leader. So I can hand out a ps 9 action to the bombers.

Honestly with advanced proton torpedoes I don't needs the re-rolls.

Having the re-rolls for the scimitar squad guy and vader's cluster missile is a joy however.

If you intend to shoot with both target lock and focus consider replacing the proton torpedoes with concussion missiles.

That is a really good suggestion. I think I will put it on captain Jonus as I should be able to fire scimitar's long range ordinance with the re-roll.

Yes, Squad Leader can let Vader hand off an action to a nearby Bomber to use for a TL. That can slow down your "alpha strike" although with only three ships it may be possible to TL and fire missiles all in a single turn; too bad no one will get a Focus to use when means the only help is Jonus who is still firing unassisted ordnance.

It's true that the APT doesn't need rerolls. What it does need is a reliable way to get a target within R1 and its firing arc that it has a TL on and a Focus token to spend. As importantly the ship needs to stay alive long enough to deliver the shot. With the Jonus re-rolls a Cluster Missile may be able to deliver as much damage to a low Agility ship as the APT for a lot less points.

Flying against this squadron Vader could be an annoyance but I see a strong possibility that you will lose at least one of the bombers with the APT still onboard and a likely hood that you may not get to fire either of them.

Happily I have managed to get one game in with this squad.

Even better there is a small local tournament coming up this sat to try it out more thoroughly.

The kindly comments mentioned here have helped me to realize that with some slight tweaks I could add to the fun.

I doubt this squad will be seen terrorizing the big tournament scene but for my local area it should be plenty enough to give some good games.
