Is the droid "CH-1" a starting character?

By Ki_Ryn, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Is this droid (from the free adventure) a starting character? I ask because his stats (2 4 1 2 4 1) seem WAY too high for a droid.

If he is a starting character, I must be missing something important. If he's not a starting character, how did his stats get to that? He doesn't appear to have the cybernetics or talents for it.

Thanks for the help!

PS: A PDF of his character sheet is available for download from FFG here:

Premades from FFG rarely if ever use character creation rules. Their pregens usually have exactly what they need to be fun for new players without being too unbalanced.

It's funny then that they had to make their sample droid way (WAY) better than the actual droids in the book in order for it to be balanced :)

Yeah, 45 over chargen XP is sorta damning. Less with Obligation, but still.

I seem to recall a bit of discussion shortly after Free RPG Day where it was determined that most (all?) of the pregens for that adventure have extra XP of varying amounts.

Yeah, most of FFG's EotE pre-gen PCs (Beginner Box or Under a Black Sun) are valid builds per the character creation guidelines.

I did a summary of where the Beginner Box characters had issues a while back on my blog, with the droid PC being the only one of them to actually be possible to build as a starting PC. The Twi'lek Bounty Hunter and Wookiee Hired Gun were way short on credits, and the Humans all had too much XP (built on 120 XP for Characteristics alone) and too much money (far in excess of the 500 default that PCs normally get).

I don't find this unreasonable for characters that are designed to be played once and then laid to rest. You want to show people what the game can do and what it will be like to play a star wars rpg, not what it islike in the beginning of a campaign when you have no xp yet. They are fleshed out characters with higher stats and skills so you can learn to play the game and get new players enthousiastic.

@Dante: I think it's fine to not use starting characters, but all of the pregens should be built with the same number of points.

Because? The characters have the perfect stats for the roles they need to play in the adventure they were made for...
