Ships for the Rich and Senseless

By LibrariaNPC, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I'm trying to come up with a list of ships that are known to be used by those who are rich, even if the ship is horribly underwhelming performance-wise. It doesn't matter if they have been statted in EotE or not (those that know my Starfighter Creation Thread know that I love statting these things out), just that they are known to be status symbols of wealth.

Keep in mind I'm looking for the smaller yachts, not those the size of capital ships. Anything that a rich civilian can own with a few servants to pilot it will do (as having the need of hundreds of crew makes this difficult for the stories I have in mind).

So far, my list includes:

The Hyrotil Crescent-class transport

The Baudo-class star yacht

The various Personal Luxury Yachts made by SoroSuub Corporation (we have one example in EotE's Core Book)

The Starwind Pleasure Yacht (again, in EotE)

The Star Tours Luxury Yacht

Any Nubian Yacht, such as the H-type or the J-Type

Does anyone have any other ideas offhand?

Not custom ones I assume?

Not custom ones I assume?

I'd prefer some of the canon ones, only because there are usually images onhand to help with them.

My players are heading to Tapani and are considering hitting The Wheel next, so I figured I'd look into some ships that just SCREAM ostentatious, even if the performance of those ships is sorely underwhelming.

I want to equate it to a solid gold Cadillac with all the frills. I want the party to look at it and say "Yes, that person has more money than sense if they are driving that thing!" I know I can do something similar with a "normal" stock ship, but I want that wow factor on their behalf. . .especially if they get stuck piloting it to "appease" a patron. . .:-D

What I was wondering if you meant something like Dooku's ship.

The Nubian D-Type Stealth Freighter in Suns of Fortune makes way more sense for the rich and famous. Heck no permits, and a reasonable excuse for being stealth if you're famous. They also describe it as customized when built. So getting a few staterooms added at the expense of cargo, sounds like it would work.

You mean custom ordered ships that were built for someone? If so, then yeah, game on!

I didn't get my hands on Suns of Fortune yet due to needing to save money to move (not to mention adding ANOTHER book to the boxes I'm packing), so I'll have to see if anyone else in my group has snagged it to take a look. Thanks for that!

IIRC, the Hutts typically use highly modified yachts for personal transport. I believe that most are probably in the Silhouette 5 range.

Or take a normal ship, and give it something that makes little/no sense in space.

Like a Mon Cal yacht with a giant see-through fishtank replacing one of the main viewports.

Or a medium transport with its cargo holds replaced by hangars carrying lovingly-restored antique starfighters.

I don't remember the title, but I once read a Star Wars book that mentioned a literal "flying circus". They had a number of light and medium freighters with stables and pens, and one of the larger ships had a retractable big-top tent built into the side!

In one game i had player use an R-41 starchaser as a "Luxury" fighter. Thing looks roomy and has room for two.. side by side? Since the player was portly (think Jek Porkins) the extra space made sense. Put in a small autochef, holo emitter, and you could fly in style

also there is the C-3 passenger liner my friends at XWAU did (has some great updated models for some ships)

Might have been in the Millennium Falcon novel. Don't remember the big top tent but I know the Falcon belonged to a traveling circus for a while before Lando got his hands on it.

There was the following that I can think might be interesting:

Mindaball custom pleasure yacht

1550-Lex

Aavman Extravagance 11-S

Luxury 2800, 3000 & 5000 series (all made by SoroSuub)

Ubrikkian Space Yacht used by Hutt's

This is always an option, but unless you are close enough to see those details and/or know they exist in the first place, it doesn't really shout "ostentatious" (which is the goal). Still, really great ideas there, especially with the lovingly restored fighters. May even be funnier if they are scale models, or perhaps antique speeders (as most can easily fit into a ship with some narrative modifications).

Interesting concept there with the fighter! I may have to keep that in mind for a later time if needed for an individual that isn't going too horribly far on their own.

The C-3 is lovely, but my only concern is that it's about the size of a capital ship. Still, great ship to keep on record for when I need to haul around large numbers of rich and idiotic!

I didn't know about the 1550-Lex and the Aavman, so thank you for those!

I couldn't find anything about the Mindaball, though. Do you have a link or a source there?

Thanks for the input so far; this is coming out to be a rather great list!
