Need help with Blood Squadron (Challenge)

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

So I've painted one of every small rebel ship black, red, and chrome (As seen in my Non Canon Repaints thread) and I'm looking to use all of them in a 100 point squad. Now this probably won't be a tournament winning squad, mostly because even at the cheapest pilot, 1 of each gives me 5 ships at 94 points, so I have very little room for upgrades.

This squad must include:

X-Wing

Y-Wing

A-Wing

B-Wing

HWK-290

The hardest part is fitting the HWK in there, because to make an HWK shine you need alot of spare points. There are 6 floating points in this build(If you go with the cheapest pilots for each). I've considered leaving the HWK as scrap and upgrading the X-Wing to Garven Dreis... but should I upgrade the HWK?

Yup give him the Blaster turret or Ion Cannon Turret!

If you must go with all 5 all you can do is add a turret to the HWK, probably ION would be most useful, then leave it at 99 for initiative.

The only rebel swarm that really interests me is AABBB.

If I'm adding an ion to the HWK, I would probably use that last 1 to also add Nien Numb. It'd give the HWK alot more options.

Or since the HWK shouldn't really ever be stressed, I would consider adding the intelligence agent to him instead. It could help you decide if you want to boost with your A wing or barrel roll with your B wing.

Of course an R5 on the Y wing wouldn't be a bad use of the points. It has enough hull that it'll likely take at least 1 crit, and all except 8 (?) are ship related crits that the R5 can turn down. Given some of them are useless in this case. (Minor explosion, Thrust control fire, Munitions failure, and all 4 of the pilot cards, though 1 of them is useless against a gold anyways). So 19 of the 33 can be flipped over with R5, assuming the Y wing survives the turn.

Id go with an Ion hawk and a R2 on the y wing to do the dangerous bump annoyance actions, were it needs its movement.

Nice idea - or perhaps maybe drop the ION for a blaster turret and then do both an intel agent AND the R5

You don't want to do that. If you're action denied ever, you won't be able to shoot at all (1 attack die doesn't count). This includes stupid crit cards that require your action to flip down. And even when you do get your action, you're now rolling 1.5 hits on your blaster. You're much more likely to get damage through with the Ion + Focus than you are naked Blaster. And the ion token itself is awesome.

I would rather have Ion + nothing, than Blaster + Nien + R5.

The blaster turret is really only worthwhile when also adding in a recon specialist to get you two focus tokens each turn.

I'd look at just dropping the HWK in this instance as it really needs a few more points to be effective.

Edit: Or alternatively drop the Y wing to spend more points on the HWK to make it useful. Either way both of these ships cry out for a few more points for some useful upgrades.
