Why do I never see any decent Lando Calrissian fleets?

With the Action Economy being such a potent part of this game, having a guy who passes them out like candy is clearly a good idea. He also captains one of the best ships in the game!

Heck, I've seen more fleetbuilds on this forum using the Outer Rim Smuggler than I have seen of him.

That being said, I want to change this drastically. Throw me down a fleet that uses Lando to his fullest, in a fleet that cannot simply substitute Han Solo or Chewbacca for a similar effect.

Well last tournament 2 of us ran Lando and came in the top 5.

He can be really good for the reason you say. I liked the Lando/Chewie list, both running Expert Handling and Nien Numb on Lando.. It was a really good way with dealing with bumping, Chewie would move then when Lando moved it allowed Chewie to Barrel Roll at PS 7.. Hilarious against the Bomber list... where they couldn't get off their missiles, as they were just rolling off the TLs each turn.

Lando acted as a great buff to the Rebel Operative, either giving it TL,Focus,Focus.. or allowing it to focus if it bumped.

Hmmm OP you made me think about a LAndo based squad, which I too never thought about using.

I'm not too sure I like the HWK in a 3 ship build, but we'll see. The Blue can potentially have a TL already, in which case would only have two actions to choose from. If a barrel roll isn't even worth taking, he should be able to just do his own action. But in the event he needs all three, Lando can give him a free one, and Jan can use SL to give him another. Or you can have Lando give Jan a free action, and Jan can give Lando SL, so essentially, Lando gives himself a free action. Eh, still not really vibing on the list. I feel like the HWK is like .75 of a ship, and the named YT is like 1.5, putting this at 3.25, and I prefer at least 3.5 ships in my build. So lets look at another list...

So the blues can do whatever action they want, preferably focus. Lando gives one of them a free action (TL) and uses SL to hand off another action to the other one (TL). Since he doesn't have any actions for himself, he has Luke as a gunner, so he can change a focus to a hit after he misses with his first (unmodified) attack. The Blues then have TL+F each turn to lite the opposition up. With 3 points remaining, you can put FCS or AdvS on a blue, or Weapons engineer on Lando, with the thought that he would alternate between using TL and using SL, so every turn he has a TL to spend.

Why not remove the R2 and replace the Blaster for the Ion Turret on Dutch?

I would think mainly due to damage output, which I'm still not a big fan of - I'd rather have a TL+F for the ion to give it the best chance of getting through than a TL for the blaster, for the chance of it doing 2 damage (average roll of 2.25 w/ a TL and 3 dice, so if the opponent rolls 1 evade, then the dmg is the same as the ion). I'm not a big fan on ST on a PS7 to swarm a PS6, it's not like Garven can't shoot before Dutch anyways, and there aren't that many PS7 pilots out there (Turr, Lando, Mauler, "Maarek", "Rhymer", Kath and soon to be Tetran) that you would want to make sure you swarmed so you got a shot off. I suppose you could also look at PS6 pilots to see about killing before they got to shoot, and there are lots of those, but I think designing around one specific instance isn't a good plan.

I ran this and it was awesome. Beat a three bounty hunter list.

Hard to beat this action economy. Flown correctly, you get 6 actions across your 3 ships!

That Blaster Turret's going to have a Target Lock for dice manipulation every turn, and potentially a second Focus as well (if "Dutch" gets 2 actions in a turn or maintains a TL from the turn previous). The extra damage is very viable with Sable's build.

...Interesting. If you swap out a Gunner for Luke, you've got 5 points spare in this fleet, 7 if you also pitch in the Squad Leader.

The Rebel Ops can get an extra action every turn, giving them the offense needed for an altered salvo, and Lando is rocking the Wave 3 HSF basic build.

I have a Lando w/Squad Leader and 2 A-Wing with missiles list. Lando w/SL can effectively hand out 2 actions, which lets the A's TL+Focus in the same turn. It's a fun list, but may not always be the most effective one. Depends on how you do with the missiles. Has a bigger alpha then a HSF list.

It wasn't the best list, but I took 6th out of 16 in last years regionals to get my acrylic focus tokens with it. Looking back, I would gladly sacrifice the droids for an Ion cannon. *shrug... You live, you learn. And something about getting luvs?

Lando is great, the problem with his that for only 2 more points you can have Han. Han's ability is better, and has a high PS and Han never turned his friend over to the Empire to be torchered.

When the YT-1300 first came out Lando, Nien Nunb seemed to be all I ever fought against.

If what you want is a ship to give out Focus, Lando is much better than Klye Katarn, of couse he is about twice as expensive too.

Han's ability is situationally better. Sometimes you'll want that re-roll, but not always. The action economy Lando brings to the table is always welcome, easy to achieve, and only ineffectual if he's alone. I fly well enough to get a free action almost every turn, but I can count on one hand the number of times I've bothered (or needed) to use Han's ability.

I'm really not sold on Hans ability... Unless you have completely fluffed your roll you are just as likely to get a worse result as a better one. I think Lando's ability is just as good.

I really like this as a starting point, but I think it can optimized a hair more... I don't like Swarm Tactics, because all it does is bring you from 7/6/6 to 7/7/6 for 2 points. So instead, I suggest:

5. Lando uses Push the Limit to Target Lock + Focus.
6. Lando fires his 3 base dice with TL + Focus.
7. Garven fires his 3 base dice with TL + Focus. He gives his focus token to Dutch, who now has TL + 2F.
8. Dutch spends a focus to activate the Blaster Turret. He then has a TL + F to spend on the attack.

Voila! Three attacks that can all fire with Target Lock and Focus. Garven and Lando can roll 4 dice if they are in range 1.

Mostly, in my mind, it's that Lando has the lower pilot skill, so it becomes much harder to use his ability with Jan, unless he gets veteran instincts. That means that Han, for just two points more, can have a more useful pilot talent, like marksmanship, or push the limit.

Admittedly, I've used his ability a couple of times. But when I have, with marksmanship, it has been most welcome to the table.

I tried thius squad yesterday:

- Dutch + Ion Cannon

- Garven

Worked pretty well. Lots of synergies between the pilots. On gives a free action, the other give a free TL when spending his TL and the other gives his Focus token when spending it. Lots of actions if you keep your squad tight, really fun to play!

I was against:

- Kath + Marksmanship + Mercenary Copilot

- Turr + Expose

- Dark Curse

- Academy Pilot

Try:

Green Squadron, Push the Limits, Assault Missile

Lando has a PS of 7, that's still pretty high, higher then any generic out there. I don't see what his PS has to do with Jan's ability. Unless your trying to use Lando to give Jan another action. But Jan doesn't need extra actions typically, she's there to hand out dice to other ships. Other then that, there's no real interaction between the two that PS has any effect on.

Lando's ability is more of a support thing, then Han's reroll which is clearly offensive. But Han's ability isn't really that good, because it's so seldom used IME.
