Here is my squad:
Vader
Howlrunner
Back stabber
3 Academy pilots
100 pts.
The idea is to attack the enemy on three diferent fronts.
Any ideas to improve this squad are welcome

I'm assuming Howlrunner will be flying with the Academy pilots?
I'd be hesitent to say attacking on three fronts - backstabber isn't much of a front on his own (in fact you specifically want him to get ignored....)
Vader is cool; my one concern is that he's not really making the best use of his abilities. Vader's free action serves if best if he has something to use those actions on - either missiles, an engine upgrade, or the squad leader elite pilot talent.
Yes Howlrunner will be with the Academy pilots. Backstabber would be trying to stay out of the fray doing what (he/she...?) does best. I see your point with Vader. My original plan was to target lock and focus every turn.
Maybe drop backstabber for a stealth device on Howlrunner and cluster missles for vader?
Edited by Chief HughOne of my league mates flew a variant of this last night he flew:
Darth Vader — TIE Advanced 29
Swarm Tactics 2
"Howlrunner" — TIE Fighter 18
Swarm Tactics 2
Academy Pilot — TIE Fighter 12
Academy Pilot — TIE Fighter 12
Academy Pilot — TIE Fighter 12
Academy Pilot — TIE Fighter 12
Having 4 attacking at PS 8 or 9 worked out very well for him he said. A nice version of the 6 tie swarm. I didn't play against him myself but from what I saw of the game he tried to keep them in two lines of 3, then when he had to split up he made sure to keep one of the ties with Vader and tried to keep the rest with Howlrunner
This can be a highly effective squad. Two pilots that will be able to use their PS for great positioning and to shoot first, then 3 pilots who will move and shoot before all the non named pilots and many of them as well.
5 ships has staying power and is a fairly easy maneuver proposition.
Slimjim, that's Hothie's championship list from the first worlds tournament.
Ah I didn't know that maybe my league mate did and just wanted to try it out. Anyway he liked it and I can see why.

Hey Slimjim, you're the one that demolished me yesterday...Dark Curse is sad today

Lol he tried his best!
I would recommend 1 primary attack formation and a distraction/flanker. You do not what you enemy to be able to use his combined force to fight each of your three different forces separately. If they all attack the same turn the three pronged attack will work but it is very difficult to get off.
As for Vader, what is his purpose. That effects how you use him
Is he there as sort of commander to help the ships around him, if that is the case give him swarm tactics or squad leader.
Vader also works well as a missile boat. His high PS and two action make him very effective at firing his missiles with a target lock and focus at whoever he wants. (This is my least favorite way to play him since is only special for one turn.)
My favorite way to play vader is as the distraction/flanker. Give him Engine Upgrades and he can boost+barrel roll and move really far. He should be able to attack your enemies from behind while they are still fighting. Or better yet, you opponent might send some of his force off to fight vader, weakening his main body against your main bodies attack.
There is youtube video on this. It is really worth a watch.

I know I could opt for a pay load for Vader and maybe or a stealth for Howlrunner, but I think if used correctly, Backstabber could be worth loads more than a stealth or missile package.
What is vader's purpose here? At 31pts what are you getting out of him that can't be achieved cheaper elsewhere?

Darth Vader (29) Squad leader (2)
Clusterrockets (4)
Mauler Mithel (17) Swarmtactics (2)
Dark Curse (16)
Night Beast (15)
Black Squadron (14) Adrenalin (1)
100 points
Edited by SoulCrusherExis a list i wrote for my mate that wants to use vader and squad leader is perfect for him cause he can use 2 abilities that can give other ships at range 1-2 a free action like giving dark curse an extra evade with focus and mauler is ure PS booster for the black squadron. if u own stealth device then give vader stealth and replace the black squadron with an academy pilot
Black Squadron theme
Vader
Mauler Mithel
Backstabber
Black Squadron ties x2

I guess his purpose ( besides being fun) is to be a target really. Most attack him first while Howlrunner with his wingman and Backstabber dish out the damage. He isn't week as he can target lock and evade every turn.
