Ties in Melle Play

By whatisdead7, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

1. If 2 players both reach 15 power at the same time (ie both were at 15 with power on characters but Melesandre was in play negating that, but was removed from play), How would winner be determined?

2. If 2 or more players tie in power for 2nd place or 3rd place how is the tie handled?

According to the Core Set Rules, victory ties are determined by the First Player. It doesn't explicitly address ties for the other places, but it seems logical for the FP to choose that as well.

In tournament play, the tie for second or third would not be resolved. The formula for determining how many match points someone is awarded in Melee gives specific instructions for how to award points to players who tie.

Players who tie get screwed. Avoid ties like the plague.

According to the Core Set Rules, victory ties are determined by the First Player.

Note that any power in excess of 15 is ignored. If one player is at 15 power when Melisandre leaves play, and another is at 35, still the First Player decides.

Would the first player also decide if there is a tie for 2nd or 3rd place for power total also? IE player 1 has 15, player 2 and 3 each have 10power at end of game.

See post #3 from ktom. Three posts above yours.

Sorry im just trying to get it all clarified, so then if Player 1 get 15 power, player 2 and 3 each have 10 power. They tie in points.

Ex:

Using the scoring of:
1st place = 15 points

2nd place = Power total divided by 2 (rounded down)

3rd place = Power total divided by 3 (rounded down)

4th place = Power total divided by 4 (rounded down)

Any player to tie for a place, ex 2nd would both take their total and divide by 2.

If the players tie, they actually get their total and divide by 3, as per the following in the tournament rules document:

If two or more players are tied for placement, their power is divided by the lowest of the positions for which they are tied.

Thanks for clearing it all up everyone.
