Another Chewbacca squad - thoughts?

By Ringo67, in X-Wing

(I posted this on the tail end of another Chewie thread and got no response. I'd really like to get some comment on this squad, so I figured I'd start a new thread. Sorry if this is a forum faux pas.)

Here's Chewbacca list I've been noodling around with:

Chewbacca + Push the Limit + Nien Nunb + Gunner + Millennium Falcon
Biggs + R5 Astromech
Rookie Pilot + R2 Astromech (though I could lose the R2 to gain initiative)
I figure the ability to focus and evade would be helpful. And if I really want to ensure a hit, I could target lock, giving me an effect similar to having Han as pilot. Plus, Nien Numb would help quickly get rid of the PTL stress.
I'm not sure about Biggs, though.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. :)

Thanks!

looks pretty solid. PTL seems to be the upgrade of choice even on falcons these days and for good reason. evade + focus every turn is nice. other options would be Draw their Fire to pull crits of Biggs or Expert Handling to do some crazy movement in and out of firing arcs. a B-Wing in the mix would be good if u have one but i like ur squad just giving u some ideas.

Thanks for the feedback, Bomber.

At first, I was trying to make squads with cool named pilots. But now I'm thinking more about synergy between the pilots' abilities and upgrades.

I suppose it's like going from snapping together Lego bricks, which can go together any which way, to jigsaw puzzle pieces that, when put together correctly, can create a nice picture.

If you have chewie and a rookie, who is Biggs protecting by drawing fire.

Drop Biggs down to a generic X-wing and bump Chewie up to Lando. If you are going to be flying green all day long, you might as well fly Lando.

That's a good question.

I think the question with using Lando is Chewie gets to avoid most Face Up cards which could cripple Lando. Passing out actions may be nice but you could fly Reds instead of Rookies with a couple points for upgrades (R2?) or initiative.

You're right Hrathen. There really isn't a good reason to use Biggs.

I'm gonna take StevenO's advice and swap Biggs and the Rookie for a pair of Reds with a generic R2 and R5 for them.

Thanks to both of you for your advice.

So I used this Chewbacca squad at the store tournament tonight:

Chewbacca + Push the Limit + Nien Nunb + Gunner + Millennium Falcon
Red Squadron Pilot + R5 Astromech
Red Squadron Pilot + R2 Astromech
I wound up 0-2, with one bye.
The first game I was up against four TIES, Howlrunner, Mauler Mithel and two others, and a Lamda Shuttle.
I made the mistake of flying the Falcon right into the TIE swarm. Does four TIES equal a swarm? I don't know. But anyway, Chewie was off the table in three turns and only got one shot off. After that, it didn't take too long for him to finish off the two X-Wings. I'll chalk this one up to pilot error. Lesson learned: Don't fly your Falcon directly into a TIE swarm.
Game Two was against an experienced player who had Han Solo flying the Falcon with Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker and Marksmanship, along with a Green Squadron A-Wing and Rookie X-Wing.
This time I remembered SableGryphon's Lamda Shuttle 101 and actually turned away from the battle and made a wide, S-turn to come in around the back of his group. My X-Wings started on either side of the Falcon one blasting down the side of the mat, the other turned into the asteroid field. The second X-Wing got caught in the crossfire of the A-Wing and Han Solo. After some more maneuvering, I was able to take out the X-Wing with a key shot from Chewie. He took out my second X-Wing and our Falcons took some pot shots at each other. I was actually able to chase down the A-Wing and take it out. After that, our Falcons were trading broadsides. I got him down from 6 to 2 hull on my final shot, but I only had 1 hull. He got two hits on me and that was that. This game was much more fun and I think I learned a lot. I would have liked to have that third game to see if I could put what I had learned into practice.
I don't know if I'll jump in again with the Falcon. I've gotten some new ships and I've got the better part of a month before I can play again. Lots of homework to do. :)

I call it a "Swarmlet"

My last game I had:

Chewie + Veteran Instincts + Luke + Falcon Title

Rookie + R2-D2

Rookie + R2-F2

Really needed to use R2-D2 lots and veteran instincts to fire ahead of Dark Curse and Night Beast (but still behind Rhymer and Darth). Chewie's pilot skill came into effect at least twice too and was down to 2 hull left. Didn't like the rookies waiting to shoot last but it felt like a strong squad and I won in the end (friendly game).
