Weapon Training Flame: what's the point?

By ChazzK, in Only War Rules Questions

So, here's the part that confuses me: the Weapon Training talent is all about being able to use a set of weapons without a penalty to your Ballistic Skill roll. But for flame weapons, you don't even *need* to make a BS roll, nor is there any listed penalty I can find for not having it. As such, I currently have a Ministorum priest running around with a chainsword in one hand and a flamer (not hand-flamer) in the other, and technically there's no penalties to be found.

Is this just a blooming oversight on FFG's side? I didn't even see it addressed in the FAQ/errata.

Without the training, targets get +20 on the Agility test to avoid being hit. This does not apply to Dodge, which comes later and is tested separately.

Ah that clears that up, I often wondered that myself.

Where is that rule, though?

I thought it was RAW, but couldn't find it in my books anymore...

Black Crusade Core Rulebook p. 168. It seems like they forgot to copy-paste that part of rules.

By RAW in Only War, it seems that Weapon Training (Flame) is useless, but the RAI (going by everything else in the WH40kRP line) is that the penalty for not having Weapon Training is supposed to be -20 to hit, not a -20 to WS/BS Tests.

The difference in wording is minimal, but it's integral, and I think someone forgot that.

And a -20 to hit would result in opponents having a +20 to avoid the Spray attack. Then they would be allowed to Dodge, on top of that. So it's not a pretty situation.
