My Stealth Squadron (Gray Flight) X-Wing Repaints

By WizzBif, in X-Wing

I'm excited to finally show off my first x-wing repaints. Repaint threads are some of my favorites on the boards and I'm happy to finally start one of my own. I was inspired with the paint scheme for these x-wings from reading the Dark Horse Star Wars comic. In the second issue (In the Shadow of Yavin, Part 2), Leia assembles a Stealth Squadron, later identified as Gray Flight, to locate a new Rebel base and to find a spy and she outfits them with these spiffy new x-wings.

Nice Repaints. I have 4 Stealth X Repaints myself, only I have grey markings on mine not red.

These are really clean!
I like 'em!

wow. killer repaints.

Very nice repaints. In my opinion, the red lines are a good trade off since they give a little bit of pop for the model against the play mat.

You guys have to stop posting all of these awesome repaints! I got into this game partially so I wouldn't have to paint any more minis (GW refugee...).

Thanks for the comments and likes, everyone. I thought the red markings helped the mins pop against a space backdrop too. In the comic, there are some other ships in the squadron that use blue or gold (orangish) markings. I actually tried out blue lines on one of the X's, but it just didn't give the same visual pop as the red so I ended up painting two red-marked fighters.

Yeah, seriously... all these **** fine repaints kind of give me the itch.

Question: Do any of you use any kind of magnifying lens when painting? I've thought about checking the local hobby shops for the headband style lenses but haven't done it yet.

I just paint by eye, mainly because I find it easier, but also lets me see how the product looks to others as I progress.

I used to have one of those stands with the alligator clips and a magnifying glass, but I never ended up using it much. At one point a few years ago I thought I was done with miniature games and gave all my painting stuff away. In the last couple years, I got drawn into Blood Bowl and now my painting and hobby supplies are building back again. I haven't purchased another magnifier, but I have considered one from time to time. Mainly because I'll take a picture of a miniature for my blog only to find that the camera brings out some mistakes that I didn't notice when I was painting it. But, I also paint my stuff to use while playing (vs strict show pieces) so I try to let those small imperfections slide and not bother me. Anyway, if I were to get a magnifier again I'd be tempted to try one of those headband styles.

Very nice, great job!!

Me likey! That gives me some ideas.

Great job Wizz!

Looks great!

Nicely done, Im glad to see IM not the only one that wants black x-wings. I mean, it just makes sense. I like the effect on the cockpit and also agree that they need some read to break up the model.
