Repaints from a Newbie.

By Old Guy, in X-Wing

Despite the more than adequate paint job on these little models I felt the need to personalise my starships.

That is probably my favorite tie repaint I've seen so far. Really like it.

Very nice. Love that shuttle.

great job! how did you get the detailed symbols on your ties!?

I'm trying to paint my ships, but I need to get over my fear of painting these models... especially non-canon schemes.

Some time ago I bought some Chinese writing paper in order to make some medieval banners, but I got stuff that was too thin and just went to mush when I tried to bend it around a flagstaff.

As decal paper is too expensive for the odd icon I thought if I printed my logo onto the writing paper and then glued it onto the model it would be thin enough to work.

I downloaded the Star Wars font which along with the funny writing has various logos on it.

I then put a white or black background to the font in Illustrator, any paint programme would do, which made the logo stand out. You then stick the paper, or one end of it, to a normal sheet, put it through the printer and then carefully cut out. The good thing is that when you put it on, and before the glue dries (PVA), you can press gently and it will go into the folds, like the Tie.

Of course you can do your own logo's if you know your way around a drawing programme, I used the Star Wars letter for my initial on the Shuttle.

If you live in the UK I can send you several sheets of this paper as I stupidly got two packs.

Now, where have I seen the paint job you used on the X-wings? It looks familiar. It is the shuttle I really like.

If this is the work of a beginner, you are of to a fine start.

The paint job on the X-Wings was inspired by 'Tarheel Hal', I believe it was a P47 in WWII. I saw it here

Although it was on a Me-262 at the site, but there are some wonderful colour schemes there, I really fancy Ukrainian or Latvian for my B-Wings.

Not a beginner, been painting figures etc. for over 50+ years, but my eyes are dodgy these days.
