Playing Mats

By Safyre, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Since I started using gaming mats a couple years ago (yes, a late bloomer) they have become a godsend for card style games. With all the different categories of cards in Descent and to help the players organize and remember their options, I was creating a custom Descent playing mat with specific sections for certain kinds of cards.

Just so I can try to anticipate the future when having this mat made, I only have one expansion: LotW, what other areas would I need and/or should I expand/shrink the spaces I have already allotted for?

The sections I have are:

Health (a box area that can pile many tokens)

Fatigue (a box area that can pile many tokens)

Relics (2 spaces)

Conditions (small box area)

Search Cards (2 spaces)

Hero Sheet

Hero Tokens

Weapons (2 spaces)

Class Skill Cards (8 Spaces)

Quest Item (1 space)

Other Items (2 spaces, for equipment other than weapons)

Spaces are card/token sized for that specific card/token. After I get this done, my goal is to create one for the Overlord.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Edit: Modified some of the space and took off the Action Summary Card. I decided I'm going to use one card and each player passes it to the next when they are finished with their turn. I think this will be better.

In my opinion heroes doesnt have so much problems to organize their skills, equipment and so on, but since i'm playing as OL i've been forced to make my own box with all type cards separated to have more space on the table. So, what i think it could be better a mat for the overlord, for example, some spaces to separate the type of overlord cards (like: traps, magic, events,... i mean for those ones the Overlord has on his hand, of course) and then spaces for all other stuff (rumours, travel cards, shops, and so on).

So just as opinion, heroes doesnt really need guides to get organize, but it could be much helpful for the overlord ^^

In Descent Game Night Kit there are going to be 4 a playmats for heroes to organize their stuff.

Equipment slots for the heros would be a good idea, keeping in mind some heroes like to switch in and out equipment.

Do u know when Descent Game Night Kit will be released?

I think the actual Game Night event is some time in February.

If you're not actually attending one of these events, then the retail kit will be released "later this year." Possibly summer or possibly Christmas, they weren't very specific on that point.

I've never needed game mats but if FFG makes official Descent game mats with cool art on them I might get it!
