Species in Dangerous Covenants

By DanteRotterdam, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Jabba in A New Hope looks pretty playable.

Really??? Takes 3 turns to move one range band, no cover possible, etc. :)

I haven't seen anyone mention Togorians. I would like to see if they are going to do a Silhouette 2 PC race, so something like Togorians might be interesting.

I for one can't wait to make a Lurmen Marauder...

in that alternate reality where FFG puts Lurmens in the Dangerous Covenants book.

Though it's good to have dreams no matter how unrealistic they may seem

Unrealistic? Hardly.

You laugh, but that's exactly what Wizards of the Coast did in Saga Edition by shoehorning the Mary-Sue "all pacifist" race into their Galaxy at War (Soldier splatbook) supplement. I'm still trying to figure out why they thought that was a good idea. Or, how Lurmen fit thematically with Taungs, Barabel, and Yevetha.

Personally, I hope FFG doesn't go that same route...

I wouldn't be surprised if they recycled a race as they did in Enter the Unknown.

Troll Harder, none of those races make good mercenaries.

Clearly Lurmen are being save for a more appropriate book.

They burned his village...

They skinned his kin...

He'll bring them to justice from the barrel of his blaster...

Nobody knows his name, they only know him as...

THE LURMEN

I'd be interested to see Togrutans in some book somewhere.

With both Shaak-Ti and Ashoka Tano, they've got significant characters in the stories from the Togrutan race...

Fun fact about Togrutan's, Shaak-Ti is actually fan creation submitted in a contest to create a Jedi to appear in Episode II.

I can't remember if winning the contest meant that the submitted designed appeared in the movie or if George simply liked the design enough to include it.

Anyhow, so far each supplement has had a "near-human" (in appearance) race. Since Twieiks count, FFG is keeping about a 1/3 ratio in all of their supplements of human like species and non-humanlike species.

My guess for the next book is that we'll get Zabraks, Aqualish, and then something unexpected, like Nikto.

Maybe another shorty race... Aleena heavies for the win?

Don't be surprised. I'm figuring they are going to stat out an AoR species too. The games (EtoE, and AoR) are written to be exclusive of each other, meaning they are going to step on each others toes here and there. The species are already done, so it saves them (FFG) time.

One doesn't have to look far to see where the Mon Cal mindset could easily get them placed in a merc type roles... especially if they made a leadership branch for the tree (not saying they did). Remember they, FFG, don't connect the species to a class via stats, they do it with fluff.

Edit: I used marauder instead of merc, for some insane reason. Thanks, Cyril for the catch.

I think you meant to say Mercenary Soldier instead of Marauder, but a man sized fish with a vibro-ax is certainly an... interesting idea.

Dugs were high on my list of likely candidates.

As for PC Hutts, Jabba in A New Hope looks pretty playable. Makes me wonder what happened by Return of the Jedi, boy did he let himself go...

What are you talking about? Jabba isn't in A New Hope.

After careful reconcideration I now think it will be:

-Aqualish

- Gamorreans

- Dugs

Ok, to be honest I missed the joke ^^

I think it´s Nikto, Aqualish and Dugs

I'd prefer weequay to nikto. I really liked Hondo Ohnaka in the clone wars series. Dugs would be cool. But, I think we should get a large species at some point. I hope for herglic when they do.

While I can't be sure Azanael, I think you are missing the joke about not acknowledging the existance of the special editions.

I find the scene with Jabba a little less egregious than others as it was a scene cut from the original because GL couldn't do it the justice he wanted effects-wise at the time. I'm not sure if it made it into the novelization, but it did make it into the comic adaption by Marvel. Mind you he was just a portly human in the cut movie scene and a yellowish walrus alien in the comic.

The scene was in the novel. It didn't describe Jabba as a slug, but he was very fat. I don't know where my copy is now, so I can't verify if it described him as humanoid.

Jabba is in "A New Hope" and I think he always has been. He was not however in "Star Wars". I think it was Empire that started the "Episode" thing, and confused us all. We also got to enjoy much speculation based on Yoda's line to Obi-wan "No, there is another." In the original theatrical release of Empire Yoda decidedly did *not* say "another Skywalker". The favorite in our neck of the woods for who that "other" was was not Leia, I don't think she was even in the running, it was Chewbacca.

Sadly kids today get to miss out on that game. They also miss the debates about was Darth Vader really Luke's father or was he just playing mind games? And the days when the Luke-Han-Leia love triangle wasn't something icky.

This is quite true, honestly, the scene with Jabba isn't terrible in itself; it's made terrible due to the inconsistency in how Jabba looks and the terrible CGI.

Jabba appearing isn't... grating on the eyes and devastating to the soul. It's by far one of the lesser offences.

The three species I would like to see are 1) Aqualish, 2) Gran 3) Gamorrean

It would have been nice to get a little bit different dialogue from Han than nearly verbatim what he told Greedo, but it was a fun scene. Made you realize what Han was really up against and made his return at the Battle of Yavin mean a little bit more.

3 big guys, huh? Could work!

Yeah, I mean, those three are the prototypical bodyguards to me. Well, Nikto and Weequay would also work.

Maybe that's part of the reason it was cut in the first place, his lines were already said once, no need to make it redundant.
