About to start X-Wing

By bwingstrike, in X-Wing

So I've just placed my order for the starter set and some extra models.

Any excuse to combine my love of Star Wars with some wargaming is always good. Looking forward to getting started.

Ordered the starter Set

X-Wing

B-Wing

Tie-Fighter

Tie Advanced

Is this a good base to start with? Heard the Tie Advanced might not be so good, but it was Darth Vaders ship...

Excellent beginning. You can add just about anything you want from here, since you really have all of the "core" units. I'd suggest picking up the Millennium Falcon and Firespray-31 next, just because they offer so much cool stuff and the addition of big ships makes for very interesting play. And eventually you may want a second core set, especially if you're providing all of the play materials for more than just yourself.

The TIE Advanced doesn't appear in many of the optimized 100-point squads, but it's still a lot of fun to run Darth Vader + Cluster Missiles + Marksmanship.

The big ship's will be the next purchase! Need a Mellennium Falcon.

Want some more B-Wings as they're my favorite! I prefer to play with what i like rather than what's powerful.

I'll hopefully get another starter set from the gf for my birthday, I have dropped some hints.

Right now you have the ships needed for a decent Rebel squad (XXB) even if you may be missing a few upgrades. Your Imperials could still use a little help as three TIE Fighters + Vader doesn't bring a lot of firepower or hitpoints.

check out this thread, its just started up today and I will try and keep it updated.

if you find it useful please leave a post or just leave some feedback that way it will be bumped up and stay on the front pg for other new players :)

Try to get a 2nd Core Set at some point. It's the cheapest way to get more ships, and you get extra dice, range rulers, et c. that you'll find useful.
Considering you can theoretically roll up to 7 dice on a single attack or evade in this game, only having 3 ain't gonna cut it.

Should be getting a second core set at the end of the month as a birthday present from the gf.

Hello,

Just to help you building squads, you can use this builder : http://fabpsb.free.fr/

You have a manual free mode available here : http://fabpsb.free.fr/mindex.php?free=1, and once you have built your dream squad, you can use this feature ( math.png ) to know the expansions you need to build it. It could help you to decide what to buy next.

Thanks, it's a nice little builder.

Great start. Darth Vader is a good initial purchase because he's 29 points and people usually play with 100 pts. Get a Millenium Falcon so you can put an engine upgrade on him. He's also fun to use with missiles because he can lock and focus in the same turn.

Just opened up the box and going through the rules and cards. The models look great and hope to get a game in over the weekend.

TIE advanced is not "bad." If anything it can be an inefficient use of points and is not ideal in an extremely competitive environment. Darth Vader is a good piece, especially in an early collection where neither side will be running big fleets of the strongest possible ship combinations

So the Advanced is good to begin with, but after a while it never gets a look in....

I can agree with this, but if not in a tourney I bet it comes out a good bit
