New Faction: Factionless?

By That One Guy, in X-Wing

I know a lot of people like to start threads discussing various third factions, but what if instead of that they started creating neutral craft? Ships that were kinda standard on both sides and could be used by either, like assault transports or something. I'm wondering what ships they'd choose, how they'd balance them point-wise, and what abilities they'd have (to try to have something both sides, with their unique approaches to play, could integrate them successfully).

What about generic planetary forces? Examples...

Soro Suub Corp Planetary Defender Fighter

Hornet Interceptors

Preybird

GAT-12 Skipray

Corporate Sector IRD

Toscan 8Q Multipurpose Fighter

R-41 Starchaser

TIE Scout (Civilian version)

Cloak Shape Fighter

I-7 Howlrunner

Yup, yes, uh-huh. I totally know what all of those things are that you're talking about. Yes sir, I sure do know… what a….Soro…Soup Catcher…. uh.

Oh! I know the R-41 Starchaser! Yay!

Our LGS has built a third group of pilots with unreleased ships that can be used by both sides or independently as pirates.

So far we have used tye-wings, z-ceptors, , void runners, and the Corellian Patrol Cutters.

We also devised a title card, "traitor," that would allow unnamed pilots to switch sides, for a nominal fee.

I have trouble believing that this would ever happen. Not that they might ever add a third faction, but that they wouldn't give it a NAME.

"You're playing Rebels? I'm going to play...the other guys."
"The Imperials?"
"No, not those guys, the other other guys. You know, the...guys. With the ships."

Well, TOG,

there is this really subversive resource that this Rebel friend of mine turned me onto, called Google... Apparently, with this source, you don't actually have to know anything... Just type in what you are looking for and you then access to all kinds of info, some I'm sure the authorities wish you did not have access to... That is until the Empire shuts it down. There is a good chance, however that your usage may be monitored by Imperial Intelligence, so be forewarned. ;)

Seriously, I had no idea, either till i did a Google search.

I dont think we will see a another faction like the Black Sun or Zann consumtions. But I really like the idea of something which could be incorberated intro both sRebel and empier side.Which brings us to bountry hunters, most famouse is acourse Boba Fett and his lovely Slave 1... but remeber the other guys from ESB? Zuckus aka cthulhu guy, Dengar , IG-88 the Tin man who lust for upgrades, the reptile Boosk and 4-Lom an Antman android. They all have cool spaceships like Misthunter, Puninsher One, IG-2000 and Boosk's Hounds tooth which unfortunaly is gigantict. They are loyale to none so some of the ships could be played by either the rebel player or the Imperial player depending on the pilots affiliation.

So this is my surgestion for new ships and pilots:

Jump master 500 dial like Tie bomber

2 Attack .2 Evade 2 Shields 5 Hull

Action: focus, targetlock and boost (evade?).

Upgrades: Turrent, system upgrade,

Pilots:

Imperial 7 Dengar Crits counts as two hits

Imperial 3 Bountry Hunter

Rebel 6 infiltrader Have skill upgrade.

Rebel 2 Rebel opoperator

Misthunter dial like x wing

3 Attack 1 Evade 3 Shield 3 Hull

Action: focus, Targetlock and evade:

Upgades: Crew member, system upgrade, topedos.

Pilots:

Imperial 7 4-Lom When reveiling a k-turn recieve a free tacketlock

Imperial 3 Bountry hunter

Rebel 8 Zuckuss When taking a focus token you may preform a free action

Rebel 6 Infiltrader Have skill upgrade

Rebel 2 Rebel operative

IG-2000 dial like Tie

3 attack 3 Evade 3 Shields 1 Hull

Actions: focus, boost, barrel roll

Upgrades: cannon upgrade, system upgrade., skill upgrade

Pilots:

Imperial 8 IG-88b After attacking, roll a defence dice if dice hits evade get a evade token if it hits focus get a focus token.

Imperial 7 IG-88c After attacking, roll a defence dice if dice hits evade get a evade token.

Imperial 5 IG-88d After attacking, roll a defence dice if dice hits focus get a focus token.

This way you could push a build toward a bounty hunter feel on the Imperial side and a ”renegade squadron” build on the rebel side with the Hawk and the Falcon.

Well, I can't really have much emotional investment in something I had to look up. But I know the Starchasers from TIE Fighter, so I'm more inclined to care. You know what I mean? Also a fella could use Wookiepedia as well.

A third faction will happen but I doubt they'd do the wizards mini "fringe" group. It's not a bad idea but flavor wise they already did too much "fringe" stuff by releasing bounty hunters and smugglers.

Non-faction-specific ship cards would be interesting, and I could FFG actually doing something like that as a cards-only expansion.

Amateur . . . *I* can not only name all those from memory, but most of them I can quote the armament and top speed in "X-wing Alliance." :D
